  • Description

    Hello

My name is Laura, I'm 33 years old and British. My home is a small town called Rugby which is where the game of rugby football was first played.
During the last 6 years I have been lucky enough to travel to New Zealand, Australia and Canada on working holiday visas.
From 2015 to 2017 I worked in Australia, mainly in childcare, either for families or in a nursery. I spent time in Adelaide and a year in Brisbane which I loved. I now have the opportunity to return to Australia on a tourist visa. This time round I would like to explore more of the countryside and experience life in the outback.

I have recently returned home from two years in Canada (2017 to 2019). In Canada I changed from working with children to working mainly on Guest ranches and farms in Alberta and British Colombia and also helped out at a B&B in the Rocky Mountains.

My last Workaway placement was at a home for retired horses. I stayed there for 6 months during the winter and spring. I learned lots of natural horsemanship as well as bare back riding. I also got to help when our local vet came to treat some of our horses. I am comfortable around horses of all sizes and temperaments. The horses were out in fields so I'm confident going in with them.
I did plenty of mucking out, grooming, moving horses, picking their hooves and administering medicine. I have ridden bare back, western and English.
I also got the chance to go riding up in the mountains, where we camped and did rides every day which involved trekking through forest and bush, going along narrow trails and crossing rivers.
I spent 2 winters in very cold and snowy conditions in Canada so i am really looking forward to some Aussie sunshine!
There were also 3 dogs to take care of, one of which was a puppy which needed training and lots of walks and love. We also had lots of egg laying hens which we all had to look after.
The owner trained me up to be her assistant so I was able to take charge of the farm when she was busy or away.
At the B&B I had experience with cooking and plenty of cleaning, as well chatting with our guests.
I am a qualified nanny with over 10 years childcare experience of all ages and group sizes.
I am a hard working person that doesn't mind getting stuck into tasks and getting my hands dirty. I work well in a team as well as independently. I am a self motivated, friendly and outgoing person.
I like to keep busy but I'm also happy relaxing with a good book or just watching the world go by.
