Hello! I'm Lael, a late-20s wanderer taking some time to explore the world before buckling down and going to grad school. I've been lucky enough to travel quite a bit already, and do lots of cool and interesting things. I'm always hungry for more!

I love learning languages, history, handicrafts and practical skills, and just about anything else. I also love to cook (vegetarian), and would be delighted to share recipes and food with hosts.

Passionate about the environment and social justice, and coming to believe that one of the best ways to make the world a better place in the long run is to start by building healthy and mutually enriching relationships in our own communities.

More details about my language interests
I love learning languages. I took Spanish throughout school and am reasonably competent in it - probably enough to teach at a beginner level. I learned Turkish through studying abroad in Turkey in high school, and could probably also teach beginner Turkish. I've dabbled in many other languages over the years, including Greek, German, Latin, Esperanto, Irish... I'm quick at learning languages and could be a helpful tutor/study assistant to anyone learning a language. I'm also always eager to learn more!

I have experience working and volunteering on small-scale organic farms (including through WWOOF and paid employment). I've also done some habitat restoration work. Other than that, I've mostly worked in customer service, but I'm a quick and flexible learner, and physically able. Occasionally, I've cared for children as a babysitter, and helped run educational programs for children.

I like to go on long hikes and bike rides. I love books (favorites include Lord of the Rings, The Alchemist, and anything by Becky Chambers). I'm a novice-intermediate player of tabletop role-playing games (like Dungeons and Dragons). I love tea and chocolate and anything sweet. And I want to discover more things to enjoy every day!
