  • Description

    Hello there!

My name is Kjetil, I am 30 years old and I come from a tiny town in Norway. I worked for the IKEA Group for a number of years, but now I want to travel the world and get to meet the many different people out there, starting with a year in Japan with a Working Holiday Visa.

I think of myself as a calm and optimistic person who enjoys learning new things, and I am also quite flexible and open to unorthodox plans. I enjoy cooking and the outdoors, hiking, biking and swimming, and I am decent with computers as well. I also love animals, though I am allergic to most of them, which is ironic.

I also enjoy learning new languages, and I have found Japanese to be a challenging and fun language to learn. I have studied it on my own with various learning applications, but I believe that exposing yourself to the language on a daily basis and using it to communicate with those who speak fluently, is a truly excellent way to learn a language.

Right now I am in Japan, and the plan is to travel and work for (at least) a year. I've always found Japanese culture and cuisine exciting. Staying there in the summer of 2018 made me want to take a deeper dive, and experience the country and its people in a way a shorter holiday rarely provides, by using resources like Workaway.

    Thanks for reading!
    よろしくおねがいします!

  • More details about your skills

Customer service - My time at IKEA was mostly spent interacting with customers, giving them advice and figuring out the best solution to their individual needs. Ensuring that the store was welcoming and presentable to the customer at all times.

Housekeeping - I have experience in cleaning and setting both self-contained units and hotel-style rooms to a professional standard.

Cooking - I have worked as a breakfast cook with buffet style menu, and I have experience with craft cocktails and coffee as a hobby.

Computers - Has been a hobby of mine for a long time, and I am proficient in using them, as well as maintaining, repairing and building computers for home use.

Animal care - Worked at a dairy farm as a farmhand, and I have been surrounded by dogs all my life, know how to handle them, groom them, bathe them and make sure they're happy little critters.

Power tools - Able to maintain and handle equipment such as drills, chainsaws, log splitters, weed whackers and so on.

Event planning - Some experience planning larger events.

Painting - I've painted walls, roofs, and little miniature tin soldiers for home use.

Basic bicycle and car maintenance - Can do simple tasks like changing tires, fluids, cleaning and similar.

Assembling furniture - Unsurprisingly, I assembled a lot of furniture working for IKEA.... A lot.

  • What else ...

I enjoy exploring the world around me, cresting hills or exploring the alleys of an old and beautiful city, on foot or on a bicycle, but I also enjoy a quiet day indoors, playing games, drawing a sketch, or digging myself down into YouTube videos of whatever curiosity I need sated.

In short, I am the kind of person who loves to try a little bit of everything. Life's an all-you-can-eat buffet, and boy I am hungry.
