  • Description

I am a French-American digital nomad, full of energy and enthusiasm. I am currently working part-time as a publishing assistant for an online, open access academic journal, and am wonderfully lucky enough to be able to travel the world as I do so!

I was living in Cambridge, UK, for a year, and had been taking short trips to various European destinations. One recent highlight was hiking the Rota Vicentina down the wild coast of Portugal. I'm now traveling across Asia, where I've been around Japan, South Korea and Indonesia so far.

With two nationalities, able to speak several languages, and having moved around the world my whole life, I see myself as a global citizen: I'm comfortable in any country as long as there is beauty to discover in the culture or the nature (which, funnily enough, there always is!). I have lived in several countries in my (short) lifetime, including Luxembourg, USA, Saudi Arabia, France, Japan, UK... And I have had one other Workaway experience in California, as an au pair for two very cool kids. I am extremely adaptable and I learn to fit into any new environment quickly and smoothly. I also have many fun experiences to chat about!

I'm always in search of new knowledge and skills – in fact, there isn't much I would not be willing to try once. Nothing makes me happier than taking part in new activities, either by planning them or by spontaneously stumbling across an adventure. I am usually very active: I love all kinds of outdoors sports (running, hiking, swimming, skiing, rowing, canyoning, climbing) and am not afraid of tiring activities.

Whenever I visit somewhere new, I always gravitate towards the natural and local routes: I want to feel the land the way the locals do. As a language lover, a huge part of the fun is learning new words/phrases, and discovering the hidden intricacies of culture that are hidden within. Workaway is an incredible way of making close connections with local people and learning from them what it means to be an inhabitant of their land.

Now that I have found a job which I love and which allows me to travel, I want to keep exploring the parts of the world I don't know, until I find the place I want to settle into. I hope to live as sustainably and independently as I can when I do settle down, so I'd love to learn more about farming and building during my travels with Workaway.

I'm honest and up front – perhaps that's my French heritage – but I'm also diplomatic, caring and gentle in my relationships with people, which makes me a good mediator and a supportive friend. I'm always interested in getting to know people for who they are and learning to see the world through their eyes.

I'm also a dreamer who likes to play around with thoughts and ideas about the world and its people. You can often find me absorbed in a novel, jotting down ideas in a notebook or playing around with my own poems and short stories.

I'm independent, I take initiatives and I make sure to live without regrets. And I can't wait to get to know you!

  • More details about your skills

Languages/teaching: I can speak English, French, Japanese and Spanish and am quick to pick up new words and grammar. I'm a pedagogical person and good at putting myself in a learner's shoes, so I know how to explain things intelligibly.

Outdoors: I feel more at home outdoors than anywhere else. Not afraid to spend the day out in the fields getting muddy! I spent summer of 2021 working in a mountain cabin for hikers in the French Alps, living with no electricity, and helping out with tough mountain sheep herding.

Patience/care: I'm deeply committed to listening to people (and animals), and thinking about their perspective and their needs.

Amiability: I'm friendly and fun, bubbly, enthusiastic. I can be a little shy at first but I always push myself to come out of my shell and make friends everywhere I go.

Writing/critical skills: I studied philosophy and now work in academic publishing, which means critical analysis and a keen eye for detail. I love to take apart ideas and see things from as many point of views as I can.

Openness: I don't have fixed prejudices or expectations (at least, I try not to!). I think of myself as quite self-aware and always on the path to becoming better, more open, more tolerant, and wiser.

Garden work: I often help out in my parent's garden which is quite large and needs tending throughout the year, like mowing, raking leaves, weeding, chopping dead branches, etc...

Random work: I have been a waitress in a restaurant, and a fishmonger (so gutting and preparing fish is one of my unusual skills). Also an au pair for elementary school children, and a sales assistant in a family owned toy shop.

Organisation: on a general note, I'm extremely organised and efficient, and I really appreciate a job well done. I plan well when things need planning, and I keep my cool to make things work when things turn unpredictable.
