Description
My name is Julia Green, and I'm from the United States. I speak English, German, and some Spanish. I am also learning Swahili and Japanese. The reason I joined Workaway is to immerse myself in the way of life in foreign cultures, and hopefully improve my language skills (maybe even learn another language!). I love other languages and cultures, as well as exploring new places. After high school, I took a gap year and was able to go to Germany on a fully-funded scholarship for an exchange year! The program is called the Congress Bundestag Youth Exchange Vocational Scholarship. It was an amazing experience and only made me want to see more of the world.
Workaway interests me because through all of the traveling I've done, being a tourist in 10 countries will never compare to staying with a host and immersing myself in 1 country. I love Workaway because it lets individuals have experiences like this while giving back to the host, and I highly value giving back to others who have helped me. My dream is to work in wildlife conservation and help animals in any way that I can.

More details about your skills
I can fluently speak English (native) and German. My Spanish skills are proficient, but I still struggle sometimes with speaking and listening to accents I'm not used to.
Over the years, I have worked in customer service (drive-thru), in the food industry, at a kennel where I took care of dogs and cats, and as a delivery driver. During my exchange year in Germany, I helped with an English class and had multiple internships: counseling at a German school, research project about German universities, and nursing. Additionally, I volunteer at my local food pantry and have done other volunteering in the past.
Previous Workaway experiences I've done were at a tree planting initiative in Kenya, where I also helped train 2 dogs (who had just been adopted) and take care of 2 cats. In Peru, I stayed at an outdoor dog shelter, where I helped care for 33 rescued stray dogs.
As for hobbies, I play the violin, enjoy cooking, running, photography, and poetry. I like to document my travels through photos and videos. Learning languages is a major passion of mine.
I have a high school diploma and study at Minerva University. For my gap year, I moved to Germany and lived with a host family there. I stayed with different three host families due to my program's structure, which made me realize that I'm able to adapt to new environments very well. I also completed my first (80% solo) backpacking trip to 11 countries in Europe, which taught me independence and problem-solving skills.
