Hello! We are Johanne (30F from Norway) and Bastien (34M from France), a couple of travelers that met in 2017 while on the roads of the world.

At that time Bastien had just quit his job in IT in France to explore the world and had been solo backpacking for a while, and Johanne was on a gap year trip. Since then we have been together and spent most of that time traveling. We have been to many countries around the world, sometimes just backpacking, sometimes doing workaways, sometimes working as digital nomads (Bastien is an IT engineer and Johanne a psychologist), sometimes working odd jobs.

At the moment we are in South America for what we believe is the last big chapter in our nomad lifestyle as we are planning to settle somewhere afterwards. But for this trip and for the next few months we would love to get involved with workaways for a variety of reasons: as a way to experience new things, possibly learn new skills or help with projects, but also to connect with people and have a fuller, richer traveling experience that's not just going from one place to another.

Hola! Somos Johanne (30F de Noruega) y Bastien (34M de Francia). Nos conocimos viajando en 2017 - Bastien acababa de dejar su trabajo en TI para explorar el mundo y Johanne estaba en un sabático de sus estudios de psicología. Desde entonces hemos sido pareja y viajado juntos, pasando por muchos países. A veces como mochileros, a veces trabajando voluntariamente, y a veces trabajando en línea (Bastien es ingeniero de computadoras y Johanne es psicóloga).

Por el momento estamos en América del Sur, en lo que probablemente será el último capítulo de nuestros años nómadas. Cuando dejemos de viajar en julio/agosto 2024 el plan es establecernos más permanentemente en algún lugar, aunque todavía no sabemos exactamente dónde será. Pero durante lo que nos queda de este viaje y durante los próximos seis meses (desde enero 2024) nos gustaría conocer las culturas y la gente de una manera más cercana, haciendo trabajo voluntario con gente y proyectos locales en los lugares que visitemos. Estamos emocionados por vivir experiencias diferentes y aprender cosas nuevas, y también por ayudar con proyectos y conectarnos y convivir con gente local, compartiendo experiencias y conocimientos.

We are adaptable and are usually able to help with a good variety of projects and tasks. Anything we don't know how to do yet, we'd love to learn! Between us we have some experience with gardening and farmwork, animal care, babysitting, hospitality, painting and maintenance, and typical household duties. We can teach some martial arts, some guitar, our respective languages and traditional cooking from our home countries.

We both have teaching experience and are used to working as part of a team. We enjoy being active and love the outdoors; we are also both animal lovers, especially Bastien who instantly befriends the majority of stray animals we meet on our travels. We like manual labor and won't be picky about the type of work that needs to be done. That being said, we are especially interested in learning any kind of DIY / building skills.

When we do workaways it’s important for us to contribute meaningfully to our hosts. We are self starters and are able to look for what needs to be done, and we will ask questions if anything is unclear. We are actively learning Spanish and while we have a long way to go before we reach true fluency, everyday communication with a host or other workers should not be a problem. We would also really appreciate opportunities to engage with the local community at any place we stay.

Somos adaptables y normalmente podemos ayudar con una variedad de proyectos y tareas. Si es necesario hacer algo que todavía no sabemos como hacer, estaremos emocionados de aprender! Entre nosotros contamos con algo de experiencia en jardinería y trabajo agrícola, cuidado de animales, cuidado de niños, hospitalidad, pintura y mantenimiento, y tareas típicas de casa y hogar. Somos capaces de enseñar algo de artes marciales, guitarra, nuestros idiomas, y platos tradicionales de nuestros países.

Ambos tenemos experiencia enseñando y estamos acostumbrados de trabajar en equipo. Disfrutamos de un estilo de vida con actividad física y mucho tiempo al aire libre; también nos encantan los animales, en particular a Bastien, quien se vuelve amigos instantáneamente con la mayor parte de los perros y gatos callejeros que conocemos mientras viajamos. Nos gusta la labor manual en general y hacemos lo que hay que hacer con una buena actitud. Al mismo tiempo nos interesa sobre todo aprender más de construcción.

Cuando nos involucramos con un Workaway, es importante para nosotros contribuir con algo de importancia y significación para quien nos reciba. Somos trabajadores independientes y con iniciativa; somos capaces de ver que se necesita hacer y de preguntarte si nos falta información. Estamos aprendiendo español y, aunque todavía nos falta mucho para llegar a una verdadera fluidez, no tenemos ningún problema con la comunicación diaria en situaciones de trabajo voluntario. Apreciamos también cada oportunidad de pasar tiempo con la comunidad local en cualquier lugar que visitemos.
