Description
My wife and I have built our off grid home in South East Alaska, with our dog and cat, along with a flock of chickens. We want to improve the property and share the knowledge we have gained during the process. We live on an island only accessible by boat or float plane. Internet is very good and mail service is available as is a small store providing the basics. The island has about 100 miles of roads for hiking, berry picking, and wildlife viewing. We have a boat for transportation and fishing for Salmon, Halibut, and Prawns.

Help
Our projects include Organic Gardening, Painting / staining buildings, Trail building in a rain forest, Food preservation canning fish and vegetables, and finishing the cabin for workaways to stay in. We also have daily chores such as animal care, wood cutting /splitting, garden maintenance, and food prep for meals. Daily activity is mostly dictated by weather and we always have several projects to do. We also help with some of the Islands elderly who are a wealth of information, maintaining their supplies and equipment.

We have a 10'X 30' enclosed room with a wood stove for heat, a generator for powering lights, a propane two burner camp stove for tea / coffee and cooking if needed (most meals are provided). We typically have a hot breakfast, a light mid day meal and family dinner. We currently have camp cots with pads for sleeping (one of the projects to build the bunks in the cabin) and an indoor camp shower. Clothes washer and dryer are available. Work tools and safety equipment is provided (gloves, ear plugs ect.)
What else ...
The island has many natural wilderness settings, mountains to hike, rocky beaches to explore, fishing, camping, salmon spawning streams, and black bear viewing. While on the boat, there may be opportunities to see whales and other sea mammals. We have a honda 4 wheeler and a pickup for travel on the island and a boat for water travel. On occasion we boat to a more populated island for supplies and groceries. From there airplane and ferry service is available in almost any weather. Our island's float plane provider can be delayed due to weather.
