  • Description

Hey! My name is Jo and I am a 21 year old student from Sydney, Australia. Currently, I am studying abroad in Paris for an entire year!

I am a very bubbly and outgoing person and love travelling and exploring the world more than anything!

I come from a family of big travel lovers! Growing up my parents took my brother and I on trips through Asia, New Zealand, Canada and a short stint in Europe. We also take a yearly ski trip together, a tradition I have roped my university friends into now.

The best and most life-changing trip was when my family and I travelled Australia for 6 months camping in tents! During this time my love for nature really developed, we spent our days hiking through National Parks and up many, many mountains, snorkelling on both the West and East coast, four wheel driving through the Northern territory, swimming in gorges and waterfalls, learning to pitch and pack up a campsite in record time, learning about Indigenous culture, etc. Since then we have gone on many more camping trips including overnight trekking with my Mum in the Blue Mountains, cycling from town to town in Victoria, and caravanning through New Zealand.

Last year I undertook another big adventure by solo backpacking Europe for 2 months! This was my first solo trip and I absolutely loved it, especially meeting new people everyday at the hostels!

Now I am back in Europe having returned to study abroad in Paris as a part of my Bachelor's degree. A part of this is completing B1 level French classes :)

As I am here for the entire summer I am looking to try my first Workaway! As a nature lover I am super keen to spend more time connecting with my environment, whether it be farm work, gardening, harvesting, or working with animals!! I am extremely passionate about environmental issues, sustainable development, and slow living - currently I am undertaking several classes about environmental ethics and policy.

I also envisage my Workaway as a way to meet new people from different corners of the world and to engage in meaningful interactions in order to learn about each other cultures! I love talking to new people and exchanging conversation about how we see the world!

I love cooking and would also love to cook with my host or other Workawayers, I am always excited to try new recipes especially traditional dishes from the region.

I am so excited to see where this experience takes me!

  • More details about your skills

I am currently undertaking a dual degree of a Bachelor of Law / Bachelor of International Studies with a language minor in French.

I have extensive experience in hospitality having worked in cafes and restaurants since I was 14. This has allowed me to work with all types of personalities and people from all walks of life. Hospo has really made it possible for me to chat with just about ANYONE. it has also gifted me the ability to pour lovely latte art, carry three plates, pour wine the fancy way, shake a mean margharita, recommend food and wine pairings (more handy than you think!), and get tasks done quick smart!

In Sydney, I have maintained a wonderful (albeit small) garden including seasonal vegetables and herbs and a range of indoor plants I have successfully propagated, my pothos and mostera delicosa are thriving! I love getting my hands dirty in the garden!

My mum ran her own painting and decorating business for over 20 years and has often enlisted me to help repaint our own house as well as friends and family's. I am no stranger to a brush and roller!

At home I also have a dog and cat so am very good at handling animals

  • What else ...

I love reading, I am constantly devouring a new book!! I am attempting to read more broadly, incorporating some non-fiction, essays, articles and other pieces of writing into my everyday reading materials.

I have recently taught myself to crochet and am slowly but surely making myself a jumper. I also started sewing some of my own clothes last year but have had to leave my sewing machine in Australia for the time being.

I am a lover of all board games, though I may warn you that I am fiercely competitive when it comes to Bananagrams and Trouble!

I grew up playing a range of sports including field hockey, water polo, cricket and social netball!
