  • Description

Hi All! Jean here! I'm widely read, have many interests and skills and love to work and discover. I live as healthily and naturally as possible. I like finding ways to help others, learning new skills and to be better at living in harmony with our beautiful world. I'm friendly, helpful and easy to talk to. I can also spend time by myself. I am now traveling again and want to give back to life while being gracious and gentle to life at the same time. I still have a long term goal of being self-sufficient, so kindness to all that surrounds me, good living, healthy eating and living sustainably is what I really hope to achieve as I travel.

Dalene says “Hi everyone!” Meaningful Travel always calls me, teaching English abroad helps me to fund those travels and the learning and experience gained is deeply invaluable to an ongoing personal development for which I remain grateful. As much as I feel I’d like to settle in one place, home seems to elude me, yet my love for travel takes me to new places; so wherever I am, that is home. Connecting with people, learning about and immersing myself into their cultures and customs helps me to see others with new eyes and gain a deeper understanding of the differences and similarities in our respective lives. Being more tolerant, patient and kind is my reward and blessing. Having an open, friendly, easy going nature makes it easy for most people to talk to me; at the same time, having alone time, reading and walking in nature keeps me calm and focused. Volunteering will enable me to share and teach, to learn from others; also build and gain meaningful new ‘workships’ as we give, receive and benefit cohesively from the shared experience.

As a couple, we always let our journeys be a learning and living experience. Our shared memories always help us to look forward to discoveries being made in the current moment. We recognise that the fullness of life comes from living harmoniously and kindly with all that surrounds us. Now that we are traveling together, we hope that our shared values delights in the journey of life.

Jean here again! While I started my work life in accounting and business consulting, which adapted to computers, software and efficient internet usage, I’ve found as I’ve gotten older that my first loves of carpentry, crafting, exploring and gardening have returned. In my 30's, due to health issues, I also became interested in nutrition, holistic living and wholesome cooking. I’ve also found that camping while traveling gave me the time to explore crafting, photography and living in nature with less waste and a smaller impact on the environment. I enjoy learning new skills and expanding my knowledge and have always had the ability to help and teach. I'm sure my ability to work hard and unsupervised (once I know what I am doing of course!) has also helped me to learn fast and be interested in helping all the time.

Dalene: Doing different kinds of work over the years has taught me so much and helped shape the way I approach every new venture. From my family’s small retail store, to accounting, to real estate sales and finally to traveling and teaching English abroad has cemented skills which are still effective to this day: good planning and organisation, accuracy, attention to detail, solid work ethic, excellent communication and listening, great customer service and interpersonal skills, flexible and adaptable, open minded and willingness to learn. These all help me to become a better teacher and traveler.

As a couple we’ve spent most of the last 3 years voluntarily helping family in their businesses and navigating their family crises. We also had to help move house twice, assist with their life legalities, personal finances and teach them other life skills. We had intermittent phases of “stop/start/pause” of our own goals, traveling and learning. These pauses allowed us to again assess what is important in life, how we grow as a couple and how our work as a team benefits others. Now we are going to reset, restart and refocus our lives by traveling, meeting wonderful kind people along the way, doing our best in what we know, learning more about new things and gaining more beauty in our lives.
