Description
Hi, I’m Jana and I’m from Hamburg (Germany).
Last year I finished school and started a volunteering year at a environmental centre in Hamburg. The aim of the farm-like place is to teach the visitors about our nature and show them how to life a sustainable lifestyle.
As my workplace was really diverse I had the opportunity to get a taste of many different areas: Leading children’s events, supporting public relations, taking care of our sheep and chicken, picking apples at our orchard meadow or helping with gardening in the greenhouse.
During the year I also learned some crafting skills: With a small team I built and painted garden sheds, insect hotels and helped with the maintenance of the backyard.
On the weekends I sometimes helped in nature reserves around Hamburg. Because of the covid situation many reservations were overloaded with people, so we were in charge of reminding the visitors how to behave properly.
Also way before my volunteering year I noticed that I love to be in nature. Family vacations and my high school year abroad in Canada (Alberta/Rocky Mountains) showed me how much I enjoy being in the outdoors: Hiking, horseback riding, kayaking, snowmobiling or just a relaxed walk with my host dogs.
All in all, I am a very open, uncomplicated and nature-loving person who likes to be around people and loves to get to know new things and places.
Before I am going to study environmental science at university in October I’d love to use the summer to do some practical work in nature, explore new places, get to to know lots of new people and cultures and broaden my horizon. I hope you can help me with that:)
