  • Description

    Hi, My name is Isabel.
I'm a 24y old belgian/dutchie currently planning a slowtravel from czech republic towards the Dordogne, France to go help my mom at her permacuture project.

I would love to pick up some more plant knowledge on the way! I'm very interested to learn more about healing herbs, foraging, sustainable building, permaculture.. I like living a bit anti-consumerist.

One day I would like to have my own regenerative project but currently I'm happily roaming around, exploring nature, learning a lot and giving a helping hand to others in return for knowledge and a safe place to stay.
I absolutely adore drawing, i will carry my notebook with me wherever I go, but tend to put it aside for a sunny nap on the moss more often than i'd like to admit!

I can a bit of an introvert, I love to read, explore and wonder around in nature. I can also talk alot some days but I can't really predict when either will happen and am not good at forcing myself too much..

I have a bachelors in product design, so I should know my way around tools but i will admit: i'm not the most confident builder and will thrive way more in an assisting role.

These last 2 years I travelled Australia and New Zealand and am now trying to explore Europe a bit more.

My years as a worker i've so far spent in traveljobs in kitchen, housekeeping and fruitpicking . Tbh, I'm currently fine with jobs like this as long as the scenery is beautiful, but prefer for my volunteering to be focussed on building skills in other area's when possible.
Also, I really like helping people organize and declutter, if thats of interested to anyone

  • More details about your skills

I'm artistic, I like to see beauty but also make things more beautiful. I mainly enjoy drawing and claying (I'd love to work on bigger furniture projects but life out of a backpack hasn't made that very simple yet). This also brings with it that I have a pretty steady hand.

    I'm eco-conscious.

I've studied product design, so I know the basics of woodworking: cnc, woodturning.. but they're a little dusty. Also digital drawing and graphic design and such. I've tried glassblowing, knitting, plastering, basketweaving, construction of sunroofs and pallet benches .. and would really love to get more knowledge of traditional crafts.

I've helped around my fair share in the garden, although I still have loads to learn! I do make a pretty sweet dead hedge and have been payed for my fruit picking skills (beware it didnt make me rich ;) But I'm not afraid to get dirty or tired.

I did a wwoofing on an animal farm before, feeding animals and cleaning their stables. have some minor horse riding skills, although i did make an entire notebook on 'how to care for horses' as a kid, I think i was maybe more skilled in the notebooking than in the riding part haha.

I studied photography for a year and culinary school for 2.
I have a tendency to organize things, be it making a better system for the pantry or get a manageable next step out of a whirlwind of idea's ( i sadly also tend to focus this skill on anything but my own future plans)

    I'm independent and responsible
Ones, I kept an entire Austrian store running for a few weeks, in german, alone, whilst never having worked in a store before, oh, and my German knowledge being at the level of 'how hard can it be, isn't it basically a funny sounding dutch?' (it's not, let me tell you that, but both me and the store have survived, so i categorize it under: a succes )
I guess that will be enough for now.

  • What else ...

I love to see pretty places, meet some cool people and do my drawing. The more down to earth, the more I love it. After coming back from working holidays in Australia and Nzl, i feel like I have flown enough for a while and now get around by flixbus, public transport, hitch hiking and my 2 feet. I'm not a very confident driver but I tell myself it's because it's more eco this way :)
I'm not planning on doing my masters anytime soon (if ever?), but I love to keep learning, especially about biology, forestry, history and art
