Description
Greetings. For the past 8 years I’ve spent my summers working in national parks, mostly in California but also Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho. This year I will take a break from work. In September I will start a new journey in Taiwan to study Mandarin. During the winters I try to travel. I’ve been to China, Nepal, Thailand, France, and Taiwan. There are many more destinations on my list. My hobbies include: hiking, reading, cooking, cycling, practicing drawing (I'm beginning to learn), and learning new languages. I've worked as a volunteer guest in Taiwan, Nepal, France, and at a Buddhist meditation retreat center in Northern California. I've enjoyed meeting new people while adventuring. Volunteering has helped me form experiences I wouldn't have access to as a normal tourist.

More details about your skills
Trail work and ground maintenance: I spent 2 summers on a trail crew, one summer in Kings Canyon National Park, and one in Grand Teton. Projects included: brushing, rock work, invasive species management, buck and rail fence construction, hitch post construction. I volunteered at a Buddhist meditation retreat center in Norther California. There, I preformed ground maintenance, worked with a wood chipper, leaf blower, weed whacker, lawn mower, gardening tools.
Cooking: Since 2019, I have been working during the summers as a cook for backcountry trail crews in National Parks in California. I cook for 20 to 16 people in a remote location with a primitive kitchen. I've learned how to set up backcountry kitchens, basic water irrigation, rustic carpentry skills, chopping fire wood, kitchen appliance maintenance, meal planning and budgeting, backcountry traveling and hiking, non-violent communication skills, wilderness ethics and Leave No Trace practices.
Tutoring and Child Care: I have a toddler aged nephew I frequently baby-sit. Previously, I have worked as a swim instructor for children ages 4 to 16. I volunteered as an English and Math tutor to teenagers in Nepal. I am a native English speaker and have a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics.
