Hello! I’m Fanny from Taiwan.

I’m a passionate traveler who loves documenting my adventures with photos and audio. Right now, I’m working towards becoming a field recordist. So far, I’ve set foot in Canada, the US, the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Albania, Japan, Hong Kong and the Philippines.

Before this, I worked in the film industry in Taiwan. A year ago, I decided to move to Canada to explore new opportunities. My journey began in Vancouver, and now I’m living in Toronto. Soon, I’ll be heading back home as my visa comes to an end, but my ambition to see the world will continue indefinitely.

Workaway has been my trusted companion since I first started solo traveling in 2018. I’ve volunteered at an animal sanctuary farm in Alberta, Canada, a private ranch in Ontario, and a household in the south of France. I’ve always chosen to stay away from the city to truly connect with the land and local culture. And let me tell you, I’ve harvested some of the best memories of my life!

I’ve helped my host families with animal care, gardening, cooking, cleaning, landscaping... and much more. I’m hardworking, open-minded, and quick to pick up new skills. I’d say I’m independent but reliable, introverted yet approachable.

For 2025, my travel plans include Nova Scotia, Peru, and the US. Can’t wait to meet you all around the world! Cheers!

Through Workaway, I’ve had the chance to help with animal care, cooking, cleaning, general chores, gardening, and landscaping. Coming from an urban background, I was a total newbie when it came to gardening and landscaping, but both turned out to be incredibly valuable experiences. I’m a fast learner and always excited to dive into new things. I take pride in holding myself to a high standard for every task I'm given.

I respect boundaries and perform manners very well. But I am not shy AT ALL! Once we get to know each other, I am more than happy to talk about a wide range of topics. Being an extraordinary listener seems to be where I shine!
Recently, I am going through a phase that I have to re-evaluate my life and truly taking care of myself. Hence, I start to dive into the domains that I was never interested in before, such as self-healing, spirituality and psychology. I would love to learn more from the senior in regard to all these domains.

Staying with Maha and Carl is an enriching journey, one I learned so much. I stayed with them for nearly a month. As stated in their profile, Maha and Carl truly welcomed me as a family member. I was included in everything—— activities, conversations, and decision making——nobody would be left out in the house.

Maha, the hostess, is the most… read more generous person I have ever met! She never hesitates to share her knowledge, her stories, her cooking, her experiences and her resources. She takes care of everybody in the house, always making sure I do okay, physically and emotionally. And no one is allowed to starve in the house!! She took me on trips in the RV; we went on a road trip to New Brunswick; she let me borrow the car to Cape Breton. All that allowed me to explore the stunning Maritime. I cannot express enough how grateful I am.

Carl is a witty and humorous man even though it usually takes me a while to understand his jokes most of the time lol. With Carl, the first and only thing is always keeping him companied and talking to him, especially when he drives. That is one simple yet challenging task for me, from which I learned lot. Living with Carl is an invaluable preview lesson about how to live with seniors with special health needs, which I had zero clue about but now I know a little something:)

Maha’s way of Workaway is very flexible where we don’t work by rigid schedule or in a specific time frame. Whatever comes up we work on it together and when nothing needs to be done we sit and rest together. I actually felt a bit unsettled in the beginning because I wasn’t sure when I could excuse myself for personal business. But then I realized I could leave whenever I need. Things are quite spontaneous in the house.

Of course, how would I forget the furry little friends. Jigger, Bella, Lucia and Pollyanna. They are a Bernese mountain dog and three cat ladies. Living with these little pals is also a precious lesson. They are family members, requiring just as much, probably more, love and attention you put into human families. I am so grateful that Maha and Carl entrusted me with these little pals. I took Jigger on hikes ALL THE TIME! My little buddy is a senior dog. Sometimes I think he might turn to hate me at some point but he still comes every time when i call him “Com’n Jigger!”

My gratitude for Maha and Carl is beyond words. I’ve been doing Workaway for years and this is by far the most rewarding experience. I believe I came here and met them for a beautiful reason. I am gradually feeling the changes that happened to me without notice. They make Nova Scotia a special place in my heart, and themselves, too!

3 weeks were way too short for wonderful! My experience at the place was truly heaven. Brigitte and Al were welcoming and nice and generous. They cared about every volunteer and were always so kind.
