    About Rook-
Hello, my name is Rook Wild I am a 22-year-old living and studying in the United States. While growing up in northeastern America, my family instilled an ethic of learning from the land. My father started an outdoor homeschool program in southern Maine before I was born, so I was lucky enough to spend much of my formative years learning from the natural world and other observers. Eventually, my family had to relocate. My grandparents continued to raise pigs and hares, grow figs and mushrooms, and make wine, but living off of the land was not common in my community. As I have grown older I have sought a return to a more natural and communal life, and have found a passion for sustainable agriculture and livestock management

Before university, I spent three months WWOOFing in New Zealand where I received a permaculture design certification and great hands of experience in both growing food and managing fragile landscapes. I also have general handyman skills from working summers as a carpenter, roofer, painter, and stone mason.

Through my study of Sustainable Community Development, I have learned in the classroom, to design and manage ecosystems. As well as hands-on working at a local goat ranch, and butcher shop becoming familiar with the local food supply chain from grass to market. This has helped me understand the importance and means of preserving and restoring natural habitats for future generations. From my courses in Adventure Education, I have been lucky enough to spend several months in wilderness environments, learning how to safely navigate and guide people through hazardous terrain.

While I have found my studies useful, I am lacking the experience of what being an agricultural producer looks like today. While I am grateful for my education I would like the next step in my learning journey to focus on the how and the why, more than the what of land stewardship and conservation.

    About Grace-
Growing up, I spent lots of time in my backyard garden which sparked a passion for herbal medicine and natural healing. I spent a few summers of high school working as a sea kayak and paddle board guide and outfitter, cultivating my love for the ocean and all of its creatures. I also spent a summer working at a program aimed towards food justice, delivering farm fresh vegetables to low-income families, learning the power and healing aspects of fresh foods, and community cooking. Throughout my young adult years, I participated in programs at an outdoor education school based on an island off the coast of Maine, USA. During the summer of 2021, I returned back to this island to work as their chef, in charge of menu planning, inventory, and cooking three meals a day for around thirty participants. This job taught me a lot about time management, culinary skills, and the power of home-cooked food. I also have experience in professional landscaping and general manual labor and really enjoy working hard outside.

Throughout my time at Prescott College, some of my favorite classes have been Care Farming, Holistic Health, Botanical Therapies, Ecopsychology, and Interpersonal Communication. Throughout my college career, I have also been fortunate enough to take a few field courses and spent time exploring the gulf of California in Mexico through the lens of marine natural history and ecology, and a few weeks floating down rivers in desert canyons learning the technical aspects of whitewater rafting and leadership skills. In a year or two, I’m hoping to go back to school and get a master's degree in counseling. I’m taking this time off to gain more real-world experience and explore my passions. In general, I love exploring and working in the outdoors, helping people connect with nature, dig deeper into themselves, and build strong relationships with their community.

I feel that my time at Prescott College has offered me glimpses into a bunch of my passions, but what I want now is to dive deep and get a comprehensive understanding of something ideally with mentorship, whether it be holistic healing, making herbal remedies, cooking, gardening, native plant conservation, homesteading, and much more.

Thank you very much for considering sharing your time and home to mentor us. We hope we will be able to be valuable members of your team.
