  • Description

Hi! My name is Gabi, I'm from California, and I'm a recent college graduate :) I studied Political Science and Society & Environment, and am very passionate about the intersections of politics and sustainability. I love learning and sharing languages (currently Spanish, Portuguese, and Ladino) and particularly enjoy being outdoors and creating wonderful community! For my upcoming travels, I hope to spend time in a Portuguese or Spanish speaking country. I've lived in large co-ops throughout my time in college and hope to continue building meaningful spaces of connection through workaway. I'm also very passionate about all things art, especially music and love finding new artists and going to live shows.

  • More details about your skills

Hello! I have a wide range of experience across professions... I've worked with children for over 8 years (from baby to teen), and consider myself to be patient, caring, empathetic, and understanding. Part of this experience comes from being an overnight summer camp counselor / nanny - a space where I resided throughout the summers, disconnected from technology and delving deep into my community. I know how to thrive in off-the-grid spaces and bustling cities, and love bringing my sense of curiosity and adventure wherever I go.
Throughout my time in college, I have worked on cookshift in my co-op, making meals for over 80+ people at a time, as well as a prep cook at overnights at the summer camp. I have lots of expertise in vegan cooking and using fresh ingredients from the garden, and love being creative and experimenting with new recipes!
I also have volunteered many times in local community gardens, gaining experience in land tending and all that it requires. I have treated wood for planter beds, weed whacked, harvested, and planted, among other things. Additionally, I have volunteered with Food Not Bombs, a volunteer collective sharing veg-friendly foods to combat poverty and homelessness. Throughout this time, I made and served food, connecting with recipients of meals and volunteers making up the organization.
I also have experience working at the front desk of a community building space, welcoming incomers to the space and interacting with the public/ doing administrative tasks.
I was the sustainability chair of a campus club, and worked on initiatives to decrease waste, such as holding clothing swaps, increasing plant-based options, and informing members about proper waste sorting.
Overall, I am very passionate about the intersections of politics and sustainability, and would be thrilled to help with any initiative that brings in a more harmonious way of connecting with the land and each other! Feel free to ask about any other experiences or abilities, and I am happy to share what I can offer :)
