  • Description

    Hello inquisitive person(s)!

    We're Fred & Carla.

We met in Barcelona in 2017 and have been exploring life together ever since :) We love to create and learn. Fred makes music and writes. Carla practices ashtanga yoga and studies the mysteries. Since 2022 we've been organising plant medicine retreats in Europe with indigenous shamans from Colombia and Brazil. You can read more here: www.taozenfamily.com

Summary of our life right now:

    - We're currently travelling in Central America and will be coming back to Europe via Portugal on July 8th. We'll be in Portugal for approximately 4 weeks before heading to Spain in mid-August. Instead of staying in the city, we're really keen to live out in the countryside with awesome people learning new things, helping you build your dreams, and sharing experiences together.

    - Our ideal situation is to find a place to volunteer/learn whilst also having the ability to work online from our laptops. Ideally amongst nature - we picture an idyllic spot in the woods surrounded by lovely people/animals + strong Wi-Fi (!), with whom we collaborate to build or maintain a little, sustainable paradise. We want to learn from you (our hosts), other volunteers (if applicable) and nature herself, whilst providing what we can and what you need in return for your kind hospitality. We believe in a community exchange environment, and we'd love to work on an eco-farm/build where we can learn more about permaculture, ecology, mycology, Ayurveda, eco-construction and the like. We want to learn this, and more, because we want to build something similar in the future and give back to the Workaway community in the same way. However, we're also flexible. So anything that fits the criteria of a meaningful and helpful scheme is something that we'd love to be involved in.

    More about us:

    - Fred has volunteered through Workaway and other mediums before in Thailand, Denmark, Nepal, Spain and the UK. Likewise, Carla has volunteered in Cambodia, Iceland, Dominican Republic, Australia, UK and Spain. She has also been an English tutor and dance teacher to various children and adults for more than 10 years, an au-pair in various countries, and in more recent years has taught yoga (yin, vinyasa, hatha) in various studios and retreats in Belgium and Spain.

    - In the past, Fred has travelled extensively through Europe, travelled for leisure to the USA, AUS, NZ, HKK, participated in rugby tours to Ireland, Argentina, Namibia and South Africa, trekked to Mount Everest Base Camp. worked in Turkmenistan at the Asian Olympic Games and travelled to the Syrian/Turkish border (with Carla). Carla too has travelled around the world, studying in Canada with living stints in Australia and Dominican Republic. She also did a very random workaway trip to Iceland in 2016, where she lived and worked, buried within towering Icelandic valleys, on a farm where she milked the beautiful cows each day accompanied by the 'freshest air I've ever breathed'. Together, we’ve been lucky enough to have done trips to Spain, UK, Belgium, Romania, Turkey, Dominican Republic, Mexico, South Africa (Honeymoon), Colombia, Panama and Costa Rica.

Hopefully that gives you a good starting insight into us, our history, our motivations and dreams. Now, we guess all that remains is whether you'd be happy to have us on board with your project! Hopefully some of what we can offer to your workaway rings true with you and we can get something organised!

We look forward to hearing from you :)

  • What else ...

If you're interested in having us as part of your project, then we can guarantee you a few things in return for your lease of trust in us.

Firstly, we will work hard and ensure everything that you expect to be done each day is done, and done well.

Secondly, we'll do it with an attitude that won't ruffle feathers and create tension if there are other volunteers (We've been in groups before where that has happened, not cool).

Thirdly, during our stay, we'll tell you something that will make you go: 'Oh wow, I didn't know that'.

Fourthly, by the time we leave, you will have been introduced to a new band, artist, album or song to cherish for the rest of your life.
