  • Description

    Hello there!
I am a new member of the WorkAway community, although I feel its philosophy has always been intertwined in my life views and attitude. I love to travel - and when I do, I do not like seeing myself merely as a tourist (sometimes it cannot be avoided, of course), but rather as an explorer of new places, cultures, and people.
I did some solo backpacking trips, I used to be a part of the Couchsurfing community, I studied abroad... but the most memorable experience was my year-long volunteering in Iceland where I worked in a centre for people with mental illness (I have a degree in Psychology, but more on that in person :)).
As I am getting older, I feel even more that just seeing is not enough - and that connecting through contributing and work is the way to go. I might not be the most experienced manual worker - I work as a Data Analyst - but I come from a small town right by the mountains, so I am no stranger to work around the house. That is also what I am looking for here - an opportunity to re-connect with the nature and traditions, balance out the demands of life in a city, and most of all, broaden my horizons and meet people from other cultural backgrounds.

More details about my language interests
Since I have lived some time abroad (including studying at a University in the UK), I speak fairly well English which I would be capable of teaching. I am of course fluent in Slovak, my mother tongue, and Czech which is very similar (my partner is Czech). I have more or less profound basics of other languages and I am happy to broaden the scope with some more.

  • More details about your skills

I am afraid I am no expert to any specific skill, but I consider myself quite versatile when it comes to house work. I live with my partner Tereza and we share all responsibilities - we are an emancipated couple :). That means I can do practically anything inside the house, including some cooking, and also - my speciality - baking. As many others, I have started to bake sourdough bread at home during the pandemic. I also know quite a lot about coffee and how to prepare it.
I grew up in a family house, so I am no stranger to work around the house either and I believe I can learn many other things if I am shown how to do them. My grandfather was a carpenter and I would like to believe such skills are genetic, but we'll have to see about that :).
Besides that, I studied Psychology and Social Science, so I know a lot about that topic, including some biology, maths, and statistics, and I have worked for several emerging companies, so I do have some business background, but I am not sure if that's any help to you.
I did travel a bit, I speak English fairly well, perhaps some Portuguese, and then just some basics of German, French, and Icelandic. I am happy to share any of that.

  • What else ...

I love everything nature. I grew up in a rather small towns right by the mountains, so I have been connected to the nature ever since I was a child. I had been settled in Prague, Czech Republic, but returned to my hometown in Slovakia for a major part of the pandemic. In these tough times, it was a good opportunity to spend time in nature - hiking, jogging, skiing or ski touring ...
In some way, I am also a city person - I love arts, music, architecture, and social life in general. This has all been held down throughout the past two years, but I am trying to get back on track.
