Description
My name is Emily and I'm from Melbourne, Australia and I'm currently spending a year in France working and travelling.
I’m really excited to join Workaway because I love the idea of stepping outside my comfort zone, trying new things, and experiencing life in as many ways as possible.
Some of my favorite things are traveling, camping, reading, going to the gym, and pole dancing — I love staying active and picking up new hobbies along the way. My partner and I have been exploring France in our camper car, and now that we’ve settled in Bordeaux for a few months, I’m looking for something new and exciting that will get me out of my comfort zone and help me experience France more deeply.
One of my big goals is to improve my French since my dad’s family is from here, and I’d love to feel more connected to the country. This feels like the perfect way to practice the language, pick up new skills I’d never expect, and share a bit of myself along the way.
I’m new to Workaway, but through traveling and working in different fields I’ve always come away with a broader perspective and a deeper appreciation for people and places. I’m looking forward to continuing that journey here!

More details about your skills
I’ve picked up a mix of practical and creative skills over the years. I’ve done pet sitting for several years and also helped out on my uncle’s farm, so I’m comfortable around animals and don’t mind outdoor work. My partner and I built the interior of our camper car, which gave me some DIY experience and plenty of practice in problem solving.
I enjoy hands on activities like pottery wheel throwing, knitting, baking and even pole dancing. I think of myself as adaptable, curious, and calm under pressure (our car breaking down in the Pyrenees just felt like part of the adventure!).
I also have a variety of work experience: I spent time working at a primary school uniform shop, which gave me a little experience with kids. I’ve worked in a busy pizza shop and a fast-food restaurant, so I’m used to fast-paced environments and working well under pressure. For the past four years, I’ve worked at a small independent bookstore, where attention to detail and building positive relationships with customers are essential.
I’m always happy to learn, help out where I’m needed, and pick up new skills along the way.
I’m really looking forward to any new opportunities that come my way.
