Hey! We are Olly and Emily, a British couple aged 29/32. We have each worked professionally within research & software development roles in UK technology fields for the last 8+ years.

Olly's skills and interests include software engineering, DIY, photography, mountain biking, running, snowboarding, and baking. Emily's include research & analysis, gardening, nature conservation, and art. We also both love hiking, animals and cooking. We hope to bring our commitment, passion for learning and our existing skills to new projects.

We consider ourselves responsible, reliable and down-to-earth. We respect other people's time and space, and we work hard whilst also seeking some quiet time each day to recharge by ourselves. We are always up for learning new things and keen to contribute in varied ways while soaking up new experiences.

As for other practicalities: we both have driving licences and our own car in the UK, we have no special dietary requirements, and we are both non-smokers.

Olly:

DIY and Home Maintenance: I've made various improvements and completed various projects to our own home - I'm handy with a toolkit.

Landscaping and Manual Labour: I've done some landscaping work including laying turf and re-paving. I like to keep fit and healthy with frequent exercise and I am up for general manual work.

Baking: I enjoy baking on a regular basis, especially bread.

IT and Software Development: I can build websites, apps and systems from scratch, and I have lots of professional experience in both back-end and front-end software development work. I can also provide practical IT support.

Emily:

Gardening: As an enthusiastic novice, I have taken courses in organic gardening and design and I have transformed our small, sad and plastic urban plot into a healthy and colourful hideaway attracting many insects and birds. I've also had success in growing herbs, berries and peppers.

Horse care: I have had 15+ years of experience in total caring for and riding horses, including being responsible for feeding, grooming, turning in/out, mucking out, cleaning tack, and supporting with riding lessons.

Arts & crafts: I have completed training in ceramic sculpture and pottery (hand-building and throwing). I've also previously led art and craft sessions with children.

Child care: I've worked as a support worker with children with complex disabilities. I've also been a regular childminder for two young girls, developing skills in communication, administering personal care, first aid, and safeguarding.

Research, analysis and project management: Through my work, I’ve developed skills in research methods, data science, statistical analysis and project management.


Both of us:

Animal care: We've lots of experience in caring for dogs and other pets.

Cooking: We love food and both love to cook, and are keen amateurs, bringing inspiration from cuisines around the world into our dishes.

What else ...

We have thoroughly enjoyed hiking, camping and campervanning in the national parks of the UK, Norway and Switzerland and are very excited to experience the incredible landscapes of western Canada!

We would especially like to pick up skills in sustainable farming, organic gardening, and wildlife conservation.
