  • Description

We traveled around the world in 2017-18 and ended up doing five different Workaway experiences. Workaways were some of the greatest times we had on the road, and we absolutely loved loved helping people realize their dreams. Now, after a few years at home (while our baby finished university and COVID hit) we are ready to hit the road again and dive into Workaway again.

We are a non-traditional Workaway couple, a bit older, but very energetic and full of life. We are very excited to have new adventures and try new things and experience the world again. We have four children between us (second marriage for both of us), now all grown and living their own lives.

Jay is an energetic, active, and crazy talented guy. Some of his many skills include fixing and building almost anything (but he doesn't do plumbing) His profession for most of his career was white-collar business - corporate, consulting and start-ups; his last job was with a nonprofit organization (like an NGO) helping inner-city youth by matching and supporting them in internships. He loves building and fixing things and he has re-wired electrical, painted, does carpentry, tiling, dry wall, etc. During COVID he re-sided our house, installed some new windows and laid a hardwood floor in our family room. He also loves to cook and has created a vertical garden on our deck (which he built) in our backyard. He is funny and makes Debbi laugh every single day.

Debbi is a hard worker, loves to work/be outside, and is a good helper. During COVID she planted many trees in our yard, nurtured them and proudly watched them grow. She also just completed building a live edge wood console (with a bit of guidance from Jay). Debbi’s profession is in the field of workforce development. She develops programs and collaborations in the nonprofit world connecting disadvantaged job seekers with good jobs and careers. It is great work, but Debbi is ready to take a break and see the world again. Debbi doesn't have that many hands-on skills, but is an eager learner, and a great help in any project. She can cook and bake while following recipes. Debbi has also written a creative historical nonfiction book, "Winds Over Jerusalem", that was published in 2017.

We are both in good shape, very active, love to walk, ride bikes, read, and have adventures. And we are ready for this next big one.
