Hey there--we're Damon and Makana!

We're a passionate and adventurous couple who love getting our hands dirty and learning new things. Between us--we've explored about a dozen workaways in the USA, Canada, Costa Rica, Italy, and Portugal over the last decade. We take pride in working hard and contributing wherever we can—it’s just part of who we are. We have no problems asking questions when we're uncertain about how to approach a task or situation. We love clear and direct communication!

Damon is a teacher from Oregon, a pescatarian, and someone who deeply cares about the planet. He's never owned a car and biked everywhere while living in Oregon. Over the years, he's had a variety of experiences— working in food service, performing as a magician, and learning the importance of keeping his space organized and clean. He is laid-back, open-minded, and curious. Not afraid to jump into manual labor or yard work, and loves taking on new challenges.

Makana is a creative wanderer from Hawaii--who feels most grounded when in nature. She's worked in many fields (from food manufacturing, to hospitality, art production/education/project management) and is endlessly curious about the rich and diverse ways we can all choose to live a life. A process-oriented worker, she loves seeing things through from start to finish (when timelines allow) and is delighted by the chance to help create and manage functional systems. She is ready and willing to hear your story and eager to share parts of her own.

We can’t wait to bring our skills, warmth, love of food, and excitement to whatever comes our way. Whether it’s landscaping, gardening, helping out around the house, or tackling something new--we are ready to pitch in, work hard, and make the most of it!

Damon stayed with us during two weeks. He taugh English to the kids, worked in the garden and painted walls. He was very commited to all the tasks. Furthermore, he is a was very friendly, communicative and tidy person. It was a pleasure to meet him.

Macara and Damon took very good care of my property while I was absent. They were reliable and treated everything with respect. They feeded my cats, kept everything clean, decorated even a bit. I (Makana) spent almost three weeks pet-sitting for Angelica and had such a peaceful, rewarding time. The bulk of my “work” consisted of taking Lupe and Dragon on our daily runs/walks/adventures, and spending quality time with them and Salchicha (the cat) in the evenings. Thank you Damon! We loved having you! Damon was an enthusiastic young man, open to any new experience. His love of food certainly endeared him to us, especially his willingness to eat all sorts of somewhat different food ;).
