Description
😊 Hello!
Thank you for checking out my profile!
📌 ABOUT ME/BACKGROUND
I've lived on 3 continents and I seem to fall in love with each place I've moved to. I was born and raised in the USA, but I've lived in Canada, the Caribbean, South Korea, and I'm now living in Portugal.
I got my B.A. in Child Studies in Texas, and my M.Ed. in Curriculum Development in Tennessee. I spent most of my career teaching World History and English, but the most impactful part of my career happened when I lived in South Korea — because it was while I was there that I spent the majority of my free time meditating, which opened me up to understanding the world in a new way.
After South Korea I returned to the U.S. and lived in Southern California and I co-founded a nonprofit community. As a co-founder I was the lead for all logistics, budgeting, build, and so much more. One of the projects I am most proud of for the 9 years I was there was this art collaboration: (Watch: https://vimeo.com/390199360).
I stopped teaching in 2015 and transitioned into the Tech space — working in mobile apps and pet health, and later Blockchain and Artificial Intelligence. When I moved to Portugal I said goodbye to my nonprofit, and shortly after I left the blockchain space (2023).
In the last year I have written a manuscript that had been on the back-burner for over ten years, and during that time I've been Freelance editing.
📌 WHY ME?
I'm very handy! (i.e. I can build things.)
In addition to my non-profit experience of building infrastructure in the desert, I also worked at Home Depot (a home improvement store in the USA) for 6 years. There I learned how to install ceramic tile which allowed me to: remodel an entire bathroom, paint, and put furniture together from scratch.
📌 MISCELLANEOUS
I’m a quiet person, and I believe that I'm ordinary. I enjoy writing, reading, listening to podcasts. I write semi-often at Icing on the Cake: https://icingonthecake.substack.com/ (Zero pressure to read or subscribe, just sharing as an FYI).
When I'm not working, you will find me doing one of the following: outdoors to explore the surrounding area, reading a book, doing some research, or binging a Netflix show I just can't turn away from. When I'm overstimulated I will crash I will need to retreat into silence or alone time to re-charge.Interests

More details about your skills
With six years of work experience at a home improvement store I learned a lot about flooring installations - and other handy work. I also have experience building temporary homes in the desert, along with volunteering for Habitat for Humanity.
My other service work has been on large farms: almond, cabbage- and in manual movement of fermented soil
Note: I am allergic to hay, and can’t sleep or work in or around it too long without allergy medication, so let me know ahead of time so I can prepareAge

What else ...
I’m a true introvert, but quite sociable - so this just means, you may find me wandering to my room after the last meal to rest or write or read, which gives me energy. Sometimes I over communicate when I can’t tell if things are going well —-

Smoker

Allergies
Special dietary requirements
I must not eat yogurt or cow milk. These hurt my body. Cow milk baked or cooked into something is not an issue - it’s more of I will not drink it or use it in cereals. But if it is inside of a pasta dish or cooked potatoes it is fine -

Feedback
From the start, communication was responsive and clear. I am so grateful that my first Workaway experience was with them. I ate lemons and oranges from the tree in their garden. I did painting (on metal) and fig tree-pruning. I listened to podcasts (and a book) while I worked independently. A… read more
