Hi my name is Marty, I am a 57 year old Englishman, though luckily I think I look younger!! I am living and working as an English teacher in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, China.I have been living and working as an English teacher and University lecturer in China for almost 15 years now! I am fit and healthy and like adventure and a challenge! I have done voluntary work for many years, first in England and then Laos, Mongolia, Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar, Cuba, Indonesia,Malaysia and Kazakhstan, In more detail I have done WWoofing on a farm in Indonesia, worked in Malaysia on an oyster farm, Eco island project and cat sanctuary. I have worked on a ranch in Mongolia,and helped out in a persons home, also in Mongolia. I helped in various areas at a monastery in Myanmar, as well as other projects in Nepal and Cuba. I consider myself a very friendly, Kind, compassionate, reliable, hardworking, flexible, organized, honest and sociable person. I love travel and experiencing new cultures, I have been to over 55 countries, and had several careers, including, Chef, Antiques Auctioneer, Butler, Housekeeper, Animal welfare carer, Hollywood Movie Extra. I spent 10 days at this hosts home in July, The work aspect was ok, basically weeding, gardening and picking up dog poop , and no more than 2 hours each day, the accomodation is a nice seperate room in the house, but no aircon, which could be an issue during high humidity periods. She has 8 dogs and 10 cats, but apart from petting them, there is… read more very little interaction with them, as the host carries out all the duties in regard to the animals.

Unfortunately my stay and holiday was ruined by the hosts unreasonable, belittling and controlling personality and I felt like I was treading on eggshells all the time I was in her company. Like I mentioned she is very very controlling, which she even admitted to. I have carried out many volunteering work jobs before over a thirty year period, through Workaway, WWOOFING and independant organizations and have never been bullied or disrespected as much by host!

Though I carried out the work that was required without complaint and did a good job, I was still criticized and insulted on a daily basis. She doesn't respect your privacy, and everyday would find an excuse to enter my room to alter the direction of my fan or some other thing. In regard to being criticized these are some examples... criticized for putting butter on my bread roll! The scent of my deodorant was too strong!! That I didn't have a good enough relationship with her dogs, which was totally untrue, as they would wait outside my door every morning waiting to greet me when I woke up, and would allow me to pick them up and put them on my lap to stroke them.

Behaviour which goes against her purported love of animals was when she stole a kitten from the next door neighbour, and just introduced it to her 8 dogs in her garden without supervising it,the dogs acted as a pack and attacked the kitten, I heard what was going on, and rescued the kitten from the jaws of a pit bull cross! and in doing so was bitten on the hand by the kitten in the process.

She insulted me and called me fat on two occasions and whimpy, and when I went with her to the indoor food market to help her bring back food, she referred to me as her slave and donkey to the fruit seller, then asked me " is it ok if I call you slave " !!

She apologized once for calling me fat, saying I know it's not PC to say things like that! It shouldn't be ok to ever insult and degrade someone in any situation. This is my honest and unfortunate experience of my stay at this hosts home.

Staying with Minjin and her family is a very good way to ease yourself into Mongolian life. They are very relaxed, friendly and easy going ,which makes you feel at home, and they allow you to become part of the family. He stayed with us in Mongolia. We really happy that had him in our home. He is very easy-going, clean person. Marty will cook for you very very delicious foods. Already miss his tasteful foods.
