Hi there !

I'm Charlie and I'm currently 24. I'm working in cinema, usually doing the creation of sets and accessories for the movies. I also try to do my own movies. I'm passionate by cinema, creating or watching movies, all types of films like documentary, music hall, thriller, romance, etc. This passion come with a natural curiosity and a desire to learn and discover new things every day. This is what I think I live for, discover new people, try new experiences, travel in new places.
I'm a huge reader. To read book is one, if not my number one, of my favorites activities when I'm in a quiet place. I also write a lot, from poetry to novels, also of course movies.

Being passionate with cinema and writings means I enjoy taking time during my travels to creates images (I usually take my camera everywhere I go) or texts linked to the places I am and the experience I make (and I take a notebook everywhere too).

From my experiences in cinema I had learned a lot of useful skills. I can cook for a lot of people, I have some basics in construction and DIY stuffs, I now how to be reactive and because working on a movie set is pretty intense I have a good physical condition and I am able to work for long consecutive hours no matter the context (rain, cold, sun, etc).

I'm also good with children (thanks to years to take care of the many children of my extended family during huge family reunion), to take care of them, to teach them sometimes, etc.
I really love animals and love to take care of them even if I still have a lot to learn about it.

I've always valued as a very important thing the team work, and I love to work and experience with other people. I'm very volunteer and never lacks energy. Even if I don't know how to do something I will do anything to learn it and perfect it because I always want to do things well, and to learn how to ameliorate my self.

I've stayed a month in Kampanos with mostly Nufris (and from time to time Lotte and Eva). First of all, the communication to arrive was super great and Ioanna was at the top to answer my messages and help me to reach out with Nufris who even picked me up in Chania !
The studio and the house are in a beautiful place and all the Cretan's mountains… read more around are some of the most perfect landscapes I've ever saw. If you love to hike and discover Nufris and Lotte will always give you good advices and show you the surroundings you must see. From time to tim we went to the beach in Sougia, by car with Nufris, also a very beautiful beach. All the nature here is what I would call a peak of beauty.
Nufris and Lotte were super accommodating for the life with them, always asking if we needed or wanted something specific, to eat for exemple. The room where I lived is great, spacious, cosy, a bit outside the house. The house itself is in the same mood, and what's best than a cosy kitchen with a fire in the fireplace during the "cold" night of winter. We used to cook together, sometimes someone would take the lead, like Nufris who cooked us some great typical dishes (I'm still craving those octopus pasta and the traditional soup). Life here is quiet, calm, free and most of all soothing. I was really happy to be there for a time.
For the work, we spend half the time in the studio, working in the ceramics, doing many different tasks and I'm super thankful that I could learn all these things. Nufris showed us many part of the process and let us free to experiment our own project in the studio (I say "us" cause we were two workawayers at that time). The other half of the work was in the fields to harvest olives, with Lotte (THE BEST) and to prune the vineyard of the family. I was really happy to have those two types of activities, the field work and the ceramic one (also because I was coming from another workaway where I was harvesting the olives and I would have missed it). Usually a day of work is from 8:30 to 3:00, with no massive break but with a chill rythme, like Nufris would say "Slowly Slowly". After the hours of work we do a big lunch that we cook together and then it's free time.
During the evenings we used to discover some nice documentaries with Nufris or to play some games or just read next to the fireplace.
I've loved my stay there and I know I will come back one day in this part of Crete. Was a pleasure to experienced it and I wish all the good luck to the studio and the other projects (Keep us aware for the massive one !) Thank you for the welcoming that was always great !

It's not the end, it's a door opening. I will try to be short, mostly because I don't think it's the end of an experience but just a first chapter. I intend to come back to Mani (what a beautiful area), and I hope to harvest with Alexandros and Claire again. I came in this workaway project as a first experience through workaway AND as a break in… read more my daily life and work. It was the best decision to make. First of all, Claire and Alexandros are really nice, always trying to make you comfortable and present to talk and communicate if needed. Alexandros was with us in the fields, leading the team. It's always nice to share the breaks talking with him and to work under his spirit of good will and of kindness. I always loved to spend time around him and he made me learn a lot, not only about Greece, Mani or the olives, but also it was interesting to share his point of view about life. Claire was dealing with the administrative and organizational part of the harvest, so I spent less time with her BUT she was always caring and trying to do the best for the harvest to be cool. They were listening to our questions about the work and trying to make the harvest a good place to be in, not only as individual but as a team.
Now, the work. It's intense, tiring and sometimes a bit repetitive (seems so endless when you start a field). Was it the best job in a short time experience ? I think so. Everyday was the facing of new challenges, of good moments under the sun (not always because the mountains like to give some rain), and of feeling connected more to your body. It was tiring, but the good one, the one who makes you sleep as a baby and wake up ready for the work. I've loved every single moments in the fields (except the chicken coop), and I will miss everything : the nets, the machines, the lunch break (Evangelios, Alexandros Mom, is always doing the best dishes), to be surrounded by the trees. I have nothing more to say than "come to experience it", because however the words are not enough. I recommend everything of this job.
Last but not least, the place. It was a really nice home where we stayed, with the best view over the sea and mountains. It was nice to come back to simple thing, and to live here with every one else.
Mani made me fell in love and in the middle of the olive trees I've lived a perfect month. I recommend deeply and kindly this place and to stay for a time with Claire and Alexandros.
It's not a goodbye, it's a see you soon !
