  • Description

I (Cathryn she/her) have been working on an organic farm in Washington for the last three years and I am seeking a change of pace as I transition out of my farm crew manager role. My partner Emily and I will be traveling in the first part of 2024 and we are excited to make some connections with our sabbatical-of-sorts. I am interested in farming/gardening, reading/ writing poetry, hiking, swimming, cooking, and connecting with people. My long term goals are studying horticulture therapy, taking death care courses, and supporting kids through their own grief. I have been wanting to get back to Ireland since I visited briefly in 2017 and I am so eager to take in the beauty it has to offer.

I (Emily they/them) have been doing program development for an organization that provides support services for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The work has changed my life in terms of what it means to participate in and contribute to community spaces that are supportive to the wellness of all people. For fun I farm alongside a collective of folks growing food/flowers together, read, listen to music, move my body in fun ways like biking or playing basketball, go for walks, and cook. I haven't had a lot of opportunities to travel and am particularly excited about getting to know the daily life of the spaces that we visit. I am hoping to find a deeper sense of self and the world on the adventures ahead.

  • More details about your skills

    Cathryn:
I've been a farmer for four years-- working in small scale settings, sometimes directing volunteers, most recently leading a crew of six.
I have beginner level tool usage/constructions skill-- can use hand tools, power tools, lay tile and hardwood floor, landscape, and paint.
I am a bi-monthly volunteer with a program that offers support groups to grieving children.
I am a writer and also have had training in studio arts such as painting, photography, ceramics, and drawing.
I am very good at communicating clearly and timely, I am organized, efficient, thorough, curious, kind, have good time management skills, good problem solving skills, not afraid to get dirty, and I am eager to learn and connect!

    Emily:
I am a quick learner and love the gratification of doing work with my hands. I enjoy working hard and having fun while doing it. I have farm hand experience and some basic skills in home maintenance - I am not afraid to look up how to fix something! I feel comfortable using basic hand and power tools and excited to learn how to use tools that are new to me. I really value situations where all parties connected feel heard and understood which has taught me the power of patience, curiosity, and a variety of useful communication skills. I am a mix of someone who sees the beauty of a plan and structure but who isn't afraid to be flexible and pivot when a situation arises that could use it.

  • What else ...

Cathryn: I have been making my way through harry potter for the first time in my life! I love a good movie at the end of the day. I enjoy being outside and having big conversations about life with other people! I love a board game that doesn't require too much thinking. I also really love to bake!

Emily: I love to listen to music and especially when it's a playlist that Cathryn has made. I think one of the greatest privileges in life is to hear someone talk about things they are passionate about. I appreciate a morning sitting on a porch with coffee outside as much as I can. I am someone who is on a journey to understand the daily balance of connection with people and the power of quiet and solitude.
