  • Description

My name is David Milo, and I’m grateful to introduce myself as a candidate workaway guest. Until a few years ago, I was developing a career in research and environmental science when my path changed through sudden illness and the development of a physical disability. These challenges inspired me to reflect on what is important to me, and through this reflection, I found wellness and meaning by connecting to myself, nature, and the people around me; now, I’m seeking an opportunity to develop a life path more in tune with my values.

For the spring and summer of 2025, I am planning to travel and live with my companion, Nico, fostering interdependence and growth as we pursue our individual goals of developing ourselves into the people we want to be - intentionally present, conscious, compassionate, supportive of the communities around us, and in tune with the Earth and our bodies. We have a lot to learn, but we also have a lot to offer - we are here hoping to connect with people and communities where we can find a good fit :)

My goal is to cultivate a stable and healthy environment where I can establish a healthy routine of good sleep, fresh air, clean food, yoga and breath work, the satisfaction of meaningful work, dirt under my nails, and the regard of good people. I want to balance my love of quiet and solitude with meeting new people, sharing my ideas and passions while learning from the ideas and experiences of others. I want to find daily tasks that allow me to help and contribute to the community around me while respecting the boundaries and limitations of my physical disability. Ultimately, I am simultaneously focussing on my journey of healing and nurturing personal well-being, while supporting the journey of the communities around me :-)

  • More details about your skills

I have a unique background and broad skill set – most recently I was engaged in hydrogeological research and consulting (I hold a bachelor’s and master’s degree in engineering). I’ve worked jobs as diverse as construction and labor, interior and exterior painting, retail management, caretaking and building operations, consulting engineering, tutoring/mentorship, some college lecturing, and academic research. However, my hope for the upcoming year is to develop and expand new skills….

Skills that I would be happy to share and use during a workaway:
    -interior and exterior painting
    -house-keeping, home maintenance & organization
    -general outdoor labour and gardening
-tutoring high school maths and sciences
    -mentoring undergraduate students and research

In the coming months, I am planning to continue learning and developing skills in:
    -mycology
    -yoga
    -breath work
-gardening and working with the Earth

  • Age

    43

  • What else ...

I’m young heart, and once I feel comfortable, have a playful and goofy nature, balanced against first sparks of wisdom that comes with age. I’m independent and self-motivated, and I thrive when given solitude and time to reflect but I found I also crave community where people come together with acceptance and mutual appreciation.

Work and meaningful tasks that contribute to the community around me is essential part of my well-being… I am a person who craves challenges that are proportional to my abilities. It brings me real joy to be able to perform work that enriches the lives of the people around me - especially humble jobs like household cleaning. This is something that I lost with the development of my disability, and finding the ability to contribute through gardening work, outdoor chores, home care or maintenance, tutoring, or other projects is one of my primary goals this year.
