  • Description

    Hiiii my friend!

I'm Bekah. I am from Denver, Colorado, United States.

I made my profile as detailed as possible to provide enough info to see if we might connect. I'm sure there's something here you relate to but let me know if you have any questions.

I graduated university in California with a degree in Global Studies - a blend of anthropology (which I'm still very interested in), sociology, and community development. I was able to study off campus three times when I was in school. One semester was spent outside of Yosemite National Park, California studying the humanities (literature, philosophy) and backpacking in the High Sierra mountains. The second semester was in Koreatown, Los Angeles living with a Guatemalan woman - who is now like una tia / an auntie to me - studying urban social systems and issues - immigration, workers rights, human trafficking, gentrification, the fashion industry, transportation and city planning - so many important things. I was lucky to learn not only from books and professors but to be out in the city learning from city and religious leaders, community members, organizations, etc. I also worked with an arts non-profit during this semester giving students in the Los Angeles United School District a quality arts education after their school art programs were removed during budget cuts. My final off campus semester was in Rwanda, Africa living partially in the capital city Kigali and then in two different villages with host families there. During my time in the villages, I was working with an environmental organization and wrote a research paper on the empowerment of female farmers. I'm sooo thankful for my education and these opportunities I had through school. Student loan payments were paused throughout the pandemic but once they resumed, I worked for a year as a high-profile nanny to pay those off and that's where I'm at now (end of 2024). Debt free and excited to make new memories, meet kind and smart people, and chase the sun. (Warmth is important to me 🥰) Eventually, I want to continue my education and study psycho-anthropology or cultural psychology.

    Other things about me:

    - I worked for two years at a zero-waste refill shop that encourages a more eco-conscious lifestyle. Customers would come in with their empty containers and refill them with whatever they needed - kitchen soaps, shampoo, cleaning vinegar, bubble bath, everything needed for the home. I didn't go to a traditional store for those entire two years because they had everything I could need. I loved learning about the ways we can choose to purchase more thoughtfully and meeting people who made this refill shift part of their lifestyle rather than doing the "normal" thing and buying a new single-use plastic bottle of product. (https://www.joyfill.co)
I now have a plastic free shower routine - shampoo, conditioner, and soap bars instead of liquids and a metal razor that I just replace and recycle the blades on!

    - I have celiac disease so I'm veryyy strictly gluten free - meaning I cannot have any wheat, barley, or rye or I'll get quite ill. I make my own food most of the time or cook alongside others to avoid any mistakes (my bread being put in the same toaster as normal bread, using wheat based soy sauce, etc). I am also vegan - though I'm open to shifting out of this while traveling. I've been vegan for 7 years and my reasoning has evolved greatly: from ethics and animal welfare, to health, to environmental concern, to spirituality and mindfulness of the systems I partake in. I'm open to eating animal products in the future if I know / partake in the animals life and care. This may sound like I can't / I don't eat anything. I do, I promise ;) My typical day is gluten free oats, coconut yogurt, and fruit for breakfast. Hearty salad for lunch - lately it has been greens, apple, quinoa, sweet potato, and roasted chickpeas. Dinner is often gluten free pasta or a curry or veggie bowl. I eat lots of rice, potatoes, starches like plantains or cassava, beans, lentils, veggies, fruits.

    - I have month long pet sitting experiences if that is beneficial for you! I can send feedback directly from two families I have worked for. One month in Arizona taking care of two dogs and one month in Los Angeles taking care of one cat.

    - I'm currently most interested in art (both creating and art history), social media and learning about digital marketing, writing, photography, videography, modeling, yoga/health, ceramics, travel, history, plant-based cooking (and eating). I enjoy spending time outside, reading, exploring, thoughtful conversations, a slower pace of life, tending to the earth, and challenging myself in new ways. I'm an early to sleep and early to rise kind of person. I thrive in nature and like to experience cities, rather than the other way around. I don't partake in any substances, sometimes a glass of wine but it's rare.

-I love learning about different values, belief systems, spirituality, practices of Connection and Presence, religion, traditions, etc. I grew up Christian and still connect with God via some of the practices I grew up with but I don't associate heavily with the western church anymore. It's one of my favorite things to meet people who care deeply about their character (values and living with integrity / authenticity).

I'm happy to help with any projects and have a lot of childcare experience. Vaccinated and boosted. I'm an extroverted introvert who loves to connect with others and have interesting, thoughtful conversation but also needs her alone time. The two Workaway experiences I've had have been really special in that I've had amazing social time but have worked alone after some instruction / have worked with others quietly. I love gaining new skills, show me what to do and I'll do my very best.

Current (updated Nov 2024) - Open to traveling throughout the winter, Spanish speaking countries being my priority as I really want to work on my Spanish
