  • Description

I´m Tim, I´m from Indianapolis in the United States, and now I´m getting back into Workaway after having stopped traveling for a few years. I am currently looking for a Workaway in central Mexico (probably around Mexico City) for February 2024.

Since my early 20´s it´s been one of my life dreams to be completely fluent in Spanish.

Something that I value greatly is meeting and connecting with others that are interested in the same hobbies as me:

    1. I have very specific but passionate music interests. Certain musics I love, and certain ones I don´t care for at all. Mostly into underground stuff that the general population wouldn´t know of. I´m a wedding DJ for a living, and I love playing piano and guitar as well. I also produce music under the name Even Dwarfs Started Small. (https://soundcloud.com/even-dwarfs-started-small)

    2. Language sharing, teaching and learning. Right now, this is mostly Spanish learning, and some English teaching. I started a language exchange meetup in Indianapolis to help keep my proficiency up and connect with others that also have a passion for English/Spanish [https://www.meetup.com/indy-language-exchange/]. I´d like to start a third language once my Spanish proficiency has reached C1 level.

    3. Bicycling, cycle touring, and bike maintenance/repair. I´ve done a couple large bicycle tours in my life, and continue to commute cycle around Indianapolis. Cycling has been a significant part of my life for many years.

    4. Meditation. I started dedicated daily meditation practice this year. I would like to find a Zen center in GDL and in other places in México.

    5. Redneck engineering any cool DIY stuff. I built a camper van that I currently live out of (see photos). It was a very large undertaking that I´m very proud of. My favorite part of the whole build was creating the electrical system.

    6. Dumpster diving. An upside of living in a country that wastes more than you can imagine is that you can find many things for free. It´s a fun cosmic grab bag each time I go to the dumpster, seeing what gifts the universe will bestow. It's how I get the majority of my food in the US. I don't plan on doing this in México.

Meeting other people that are also interested in these hobbies brings me much joy. However, I also enjoy more basic conversation and just being surrounded by kind, positive people.

As for the types of workaways I'm interested in, I enjoy hostal-type inner city workaways, as they allow me to meet a large amount of interesting people in a short amount of time. I also like DIY construction/building/electrical projects, as long as I vibe with the purpose and motivation behind the project. However, I will probably transition to looking for something more selvático after a while, perhaps in Oaxaca, which is an area of México I would like to explore. Right now, I´m open to whatever looks appealing.
