Description
Learning about other cultures, local wisdom, lifestyles, geographies, climates, and languages fascinate me and are what motivate me to travel. Community resiliency and personal growth would be my mantras and are what inspire me to learn and change.
I love to explore sacred places, old towns, artisanal enclaves, and rural communities. I am especially interested in permaculture projects big and small, but any serious attempt at traditional food, essentials production, and systems design is high on my radar. It's all about working with nature and community.
Traveling to warm and sunny climates as a sun-starved Canadian in the winter time is another great motivator to explore, learn, and pitch in.
Formerly, I have been an organic market gardener; helped start and vendor at local farmers' markets; homesteaded; raised and milked goats and Jersey cows and raised various creatures for fun and food; participated in straw bale building projects; homeschooled my 5 children; helped build 2 homesteads, one of which we milled all of our own lumber. I have been a local Cub Scout leader and volunteer, volunteered at a local ESL program, and delivered meals to shut-in seniors, I have practiced reflexology, and co-taught yoga and modified yoga classes. I help coach basic kayak skills and help guide kayak tours and am now continuing my learning in these disciplines through a nervous system lens.
Currently, community building, growing food for myself, friends, and local wildlife, as well as sea kayaking and camping are my greatest pleasures- and challenges. Any sort of gentle movement like hiking, paddling, biking, yoga, and dance generally keeps me happy and engaged, as does any effort at local resiliency.
I am also currently part of a cohousing project that will be ready for move-in this year of 2023. Intentional living, such as in cohousing, has been a passion of mine, in theory. Not only should living in cohousing solve the need for community, small footprint living, and resiliency, but the intention is to become a hub for systems change and local resiliency. We have to develop new ways of thinking and being and new systems in order to offer the planet a chance to regenerate and the human experiment a chance to continue. These are serious times.Interests

I am an English speaker and am interested in sharing English in either a formal or informal setting. I did homeschool my children for all of their elementary years and some for their early high school years. Some tutoring of other children was also involved. More details about your skills
I am familiar with working with and being part of a community. I am part of a 30 unit multi-generational cohousing project where we have been practicing nonviolent communication and dynamic governance or sociocracy, while we build, both literally and figuratively, our project in Nova Scotia, Canada. I now have more experience working with hand and power tools!
I have been an organic market gardener, homesteader, and homeschooler in the past but now focus on small scale permaculture for resiliency. Perennial plantings have been the basis of my permaculture practice, along with some rainwater harvesting. Our cohousing project intends to practice rainwater harvesting on a grander scale. My permaculture education is ongoing. Any experience with permaculture projects are of great value to me.
I have worked on farmers' market boards and helped establish 2 small farmers' markets in my locale. Local food and production are passions of mine.
I was a Cub Scout leader for several years in my local town where long term and short term planning and coordinating volunteers were necessary for a successful program and happy kids. I love seeing kids faces when they discover something new.
I am an English speaker but was brought up with 'school' French. I would love to be thrown into conversational French. I also have some German language ability. I would be happy to share English with others in either formal or informal settings. I have been an ESL volunteer locally.Age

What else ...
I am a sea kayaker and love to explore wild places. I will be working on a kayak basic teaching certificate this year. I have begun work as a sea kayak guide.
I hold a yoga teaching certificate and have participated in multiple additional yoga, breathwork, and trauma informed programs. I do not like to teach yoga classes per se, but incorporate yoga into my life and all other activities. If I did pick up sharing yoga 'classes' they would include much more than poses! For me, yoga is a way to connect to and listen to my body.
I am interested in all things that encourage resiliency, creativity, and connection to nature and community. Some more information
