I'm in a workaway family right now, but I'm also working with paid babysitting and cleaning. If you need some extra help, let me know :)

Hey!

My name is Ana Luiza, I'm 25 years old, Brazilian and psychologist. I love my profession, but I decided to take a gap year to live abroad for an (indeterminate) time.

My first volunteering experience was in Kelowna, BC, from October 2023 to February 2024, with a family with two children (2 and 4 years old) and a dog. My second volunteering experience was in Vancouver, with a family with three children (7, 9 and 11), from February to September 2024. Both experiences were incredible for me, they became my family and helped me to deepen my skills with children.

I am very attached to my family and I already miss them a lot. Therefore, I am looking for a family that welcomes me, that makes me feel at home.

I am part of a large family (my father, my mother, myself, my 2 sisters, my nephew and my 2 brothers-in-law). I am the youngest sister of 3 daughters and today I am the aunt of a beautiful 2 years old boy. I am completely in love with my nephew. We always have a lot of fun. He's still a baby, but I've always gotten along well with kids of diferent age: 2, 3, 4, 8, 10, 12 years old. As much as I love to have lots of company, I also appreciate having some time alone with myself.

The dream about living abroad came from my desire to be fluent in the English language. These days, that's not the only reason I'm going. In addition to developing my English, I want to get to know a new culture, new people, but also to get to know myself. I'm looking forward to stepping out of my comfort zone and improving my self-awareness.

The dream of living abroad was born out of my desire to be fluent in English and to get to know a new culture. Nowadays, that's not the only reason I'm here. I've really fallen in love with Vancouver, its fantastic nature and all the friendly people I've met. I'm not ready to leave yet and I don't know if I ever will be, lol.

Babysitting: I've always enjoyed being around children and looking after my cousins when necessary. I have a 2-year-old nephew and I always help my sister when I go to visit her. Here in Canada I've looked after children of different ages: 1, 2, 4, 7, 9, 11, 13. I've been babysitting for a year and it's been an incredible experience. The kids and I have a lot of fun together, doing crafts, painting, coloring, dancing, going for walks, going to the playground, etc. They also love brushing my hair and styling it.

Dog care: I've always had dogs at home, both large and small. I love them. I feed them, water them, take them for walks, play with them, cuddle them, take them for vaccinations at the vet. But when they get sick, it's my father who gives them the medicine.

In my spare time I like to read books, ride my bike (I've done mountain bike trails), go to the gym to do weight training, do yoga, watch the sunrise and sunset, see new places, travel.

I love nature, trees, blue skies and sunsets. I'm passionate about beautiful places with beautiful views to enjoy.

I couldn’t have asked for a better family to start my volunteering journey in Canada with.

I lived with them for over four months and they made me feel like one of them since day one, they opened their hearts and home to me, and they really became a family to me. During this period, my dog got lost in Brazil and those were days of great… read more suffering. They did everything they could to support me at that time. Their kindness was my lifeline during those challenging days. They always invited me to all the family fun, including trips, introduced me to friends and the whole family. They always included me and said that I was valued and welcome. I collected unforgettable memories with each of them. And also they always encouraged me to live my life, to go out and travel on my own.

Hannah is outgoing, spontaneous and funny. I've always laughed with her, even at small things. I often say that she's my "sister mom", but she's also become a great friend who I want to carry with me for life. I've had some difficult times when she's been my support, listened to me, given me advice, made me think about my life decisions, helped me to have strength when I wasn't finding my strength. Sam is one of the kindest people I've ever met. He always made me feel good even when we were alone. He's the one who cooks most days and everything is delicious. Hannah and Sam, as a couple and as parents, are people I look up to. They do everything for the girls and the family as a whole. It's their priority! I really admire them. They've taught me things that I'll take into my life. Because of them, today I have more knowledge about how I want to bring up my children and how I want to live my life.

Ambree and Eve are wonderful children. I could never put into words what these girls are. They are polite, kind, loving, spontaneous, funny, intelligent, smart, cute. These girls have made me so happy that you'll only understand when you live with them. It's pure joy. Ambree helped me a lot with my English. They love to play and they love you to join in. And of course, like any child, there are difficult moments of crying and fighting, but that's not something that happens often. They've become my little sisters and it really hurts to think of not being around to see them grow up.

Bruiser is their cute and calm dog. He always kept me company and helped me a lot when I missed my dog. I'll miss him too.

As I said at the beginning, they make you feel like part of the family. They really want you to become family. So if you're looking for a place with that love, you've found it! If you're looking for a place to be more distant and just live in your own world, this is definitely not the place for you. Come and be there. Be present. You'll love the experience.

It's 11 days until I say goodbye and I'm already missing them. I hope to be able to visit them before I leave Canada and I can't wait for Ambree to get the family trip to Brazil off the ground.

I love you, guys. Thanks for changing my life.
