I'm a 19-year-old Finnish girl who spent the last two years in an international boarding school, UWC Atlantic College, working for peace and a sustainable future. What drove me to apply to this demanding program I got to complete with a full scholarship was my passion and curiosity for an international lifestyle, adventurous spirit, values, and willingness to learn about cultures and human connections.

The same curiosity and passion is now directing my travel-based gap year - an around 6-month solo trip in Asia I'm now doing after working in a bakery. Although I'm a goofy person always down for new things, I'm not looking for a Workaway opportunity just for fun and comfort. I believe that, through meaningful work and a lifestyle aligning with my values, I will become a better person and learn the most. Furthermore, I find it nice to give back and connect instead of purely focusing on touristy things.

As a Workawayer, you would see me openmindedly seizing all new opportunities, working hard and with gratitude on a variety of tasks, also ones new to myself, having proper discussions, and maybe dedicating some time to running and writing prose in Finnish.

I've now told a tiny bit about myself and I'm looking forward to seeing what else there is for Workaway to reveal ;).

I’d be willing to learn any language as I believe in the beauty of them all and find the differences intriguing. I'm also passionate about my own language, Finnish, and would be more than happy to teach it. I completed my studies in high school in English, and, although I’m not a native speaker, I’m fluent and would be down to teach it, too. However, language exchange is not a must for me!:)

-I've worked for NGOs such as Plan International, which has taught me about collaboration, logistics, and discussing burning topics with relevant authorities, even in the presence of media outlets.

-During my studies for the IB program and in my free time for numerous years, I've focused on learning about politics and societal and environmental issues.

-I have worked as a “peer listener”, for which I received training on active listening, mediation…

-I've done some work with children, including a 2-week summer job in a kindergarten and a 2-week work period in a middle school. My other work experiences include selling strawberries and bakery work.

-As a creative soul, I write novels in Finnish.

-I have two sweet little dogs, mostly trained by myself.

-I love doing exercise so I know about running and the gym.

What else ...

If any goofy opportunities appear, I will take them, which is why, in my previous school, I got to be the leader of an outdoor activity group doing adventure sports trips and waking up at 6.36 am every Wednesday morning. I also started to organize “crazy tea parties” for which we once even dressed up as animals while having tea and listening to animal sounds. In university, I'm planning on studying international relations.
