Description
Together with my partner Joscha, we are cycling around the world by bike collecting donations for a good cause (animal welfare). We started in August 2022 and are heading from Germany towards the East. Now we have already cycled more than 17.000 kilometers through Europe, the Arabic half island, Iran and Turkey, Russia, Central Asia, China, Pakistan and India. Our goal to reach will be Thailand, so there is still a way to go ;)

We are not experienced in biking, don't have a route but are curious to explore the world from a different angle and in a slow way. We also don’t just do it for ourselves but want to give something back and support a cause that is dear to us. That is why we collect donations on our way to finance a clinic for stray animals for one of our favourite and well known NGO SoiDog.

We are hands-on, proactive and adapt well to situations and cultures. We colunteered in several animal shelters and an eco-house project in Georgia. And we are willing to learn and try out new things. That is the whole concept and nature of our trip and we would like to keep that spirit during any workaway.

For more than 2.5 years we are now traveling by bike around the world. We experienced many enriching and challenging situations and are eager to share them with you. On this trip, we want to connect with locals and not only cycle but embed ourselves in cultures. Workaway seems to be the perfect solution for that.

It was our first Workaway experience and definitely unforgettable in many senses. We wanted to stay two weeks and ended up three weeks in March/April 2024. Many people talk in these references about the excellent food and we can just confirm that it has been the best Georgian food on our whole trip through Georgia! The kitchen maids and family… read more prepared amazingly delicious food (everyday something new). It has been a great time working on the house (we learnt a lot of new things about wood working and eco-housing), seeing spring coming, taking care of a litter of puppies and learning about the family's history and local tea farming from Lika. Also Mamouka (the husband of Lika) has been so lovely to us introducing us to the Georgian chacha tradition. The place itself is really close to nature, with view on the small caucasus and it makes you really relax and feel the local life.
One special person that made this stay so precious for us, was Kurt from the US, who is a long-term coordinator at the farm helping people to do what needs to be required. He is such a funny, and lovely person and we loved working with him on the house (fun, no micro-management, supportive, etc.)

Some additional and, in our opinion, useful information for the stay:
- The accommodation is quite basic as described in the profile. We pitched our tent in a small hut but they will soon work on a better solution in the basement of the constructed house, to create a space for volunteers.
- It is a very "buzzy" place in that sense that many people ((day)-tourists, local friends, handcraftmen) come and go. This is a great opportunity to speak and connect to different people and learn about Georgia and the world.
- It is a children-friendly space: Nino and Noel have five children and we spent lots of time especially with the two oldest ones. Very smart and talented boys!
- It is a visionary place: Lika, Nino and Noel have many ideas and projects in mind that should transform this place to something even better. It's worth learning about it.
- The house building project has an experimental nature. Don't expect fixed plans, accurate drawings and detailled work instructions when arriving at this construction site. The whole house project is a project with many people involved and challenges that might pop up where a practicable solution needs to be found at the spot. With an open-mind and solution-orientation you will have fun participating.
- Use the time to explore the surrounding or closest city Orzugeti. Guria is awesome!
