My name is Dec. I'm a 31 year old guy from the UK. I'd describe myself as honest, friendly and creative. Before covid I would have also described myself as a pure introvert, nowadays I'm less sure since I really get a lot from meeting and spending time with new people.
After about 8 years of staring at screens and working on websites for large corporations (the last 6 years at the same place!) I've now quit my job to take a break, do some travelling and work out where I want to go next with my life. The corporate lifestyle has given me a lot but left me perpetually stressed and anxious, and ultimately unfulfilled, so my focus now is on getting back out into nature, doing some creative things, meeting some lovely people and basically finding some peace and joy.
In terms of what I can offer, I'm relatively good with computers/websites and if I don't know how to do something I'm willing to learn. I've done some basic home renovations in the past and again, willing to learn whatever's needed to help. I like running and consider myself to be in good enough shape for more physical jobs. Back in my early 20s I did two workaways, in between and just after university. These were helping to convert a garage into an art studio in Oregon and assisting with the day-to-day running of a smallholding in the Vendée region of France. I also worked on a farm in Miaoli County, Taiwan, through the website known as helpx. All of these were really lovely experiences, which is why I'm back again in my 30s :)
Aside from running, I also like walking and I walked the Camino de Santiago last summer from St Jean-Pied-de-Port to Finisterre. I’m planning to head to NZ in September and walk Te Araroa, so my plan is to find a workaway to pass some time in Europe before I fly out, and then more in NZ and beyond after the big walk.
I also enjoy more creative things like songwriting, playing guitar (although I'm not a big performer), painting, drawing, pottery. I’m hoping to find more time for these things in the future so I will be looking for workaways that might make that possible.Interests

I have done three work exchanges in the past: I spent about a week at a workaway in Oregon, doing basic construction on a garage conversion and doing other odd jobs, two weeks farming on a smallholding in France, and about 10 days working on an organic farm in Taiwan.
When it comes to work experience, I've just left a Marketing Admin role in Birmingham (it was a fixed term contract) and now im looking for a temp role while I work out my next move. In the past I've had a few office roles and been a waiter, a barman, and a Pizza chef. I also have a degree in English Lit and Creative Writing. This was something I really enjoyed since it meant a lot of reading and poetry writing.
I'm hardworking and reliable and willing to give most things a go. I believe that hard work breeds humility and goodness and is extremely important and hope that that reflects in my own work.Age
