  • Description

    Hi, I'm Andreas,
I am very interested in trees and forests. That's why I once studied forestry, although the adventure of the forest ecosystem interested me more than the pure management of forests. That's why I focused my career largely on tree care and nature education. With my project Forest Compass - Around the World with Trees, I am fulfilling my dream of discovering forests and trees on our wonderful earth. I am also very interested in the stories of people and their connection to trees. My dog Cleo accompanies me on this trip. We are both peaceful and quiet fellows. We like the community and are curious and open-minded. I also want to learn from people and their life projects. Therefore, Workaway is a great opportunity for me to use my skills and get involved with new things.

  • More details about your skills

My three siblings and I grew up in my parents' craft business, a small metalworking shop. I trained as an electronics technician when I was 16. After that I completed community service with the Red Cross in care for the elderly and disabled. After I got my high school diploma, I went to Australia and New Zealand for a year and did some WWOOFing there, a great experience.
I then decided to study forestry. I am interested in protecting forests and trees but also in how forests can be used sustainably and extensively. I started climbing trees during my studies and have been a professional arborist for 18 years. Another professional field is nature education. As project manager, I was able to set up a forest education facility for a Caritas children's village (rabenmoosalm.de). There I was able to inspire people about nature as a certified forest educator for 12 years. For me it was an intensive learning place, remote and in the middle of a fascinating natural area in the Alps.
I founded my life project Waldkompass (waldkompass.de) 11 years ago. This is about orientation towards sustainable social development in the context of nature education. I also deal with survival techniques and life in and from nature. With my current project "Forest compass - with trees around the world" (waldkompass.de) I would like to deal even more intensively with trees and forests, especially as cultural assets for us humans.
