Description
Hello I'm Thalia! And I will be traveling with my partner Jeff. We both will be travelling Asia for 6 months and hope to do some workaway to immerse ourselves in nature and give back to the communities!

I (Thalia) have already done 7 months of workaway in the past in South Korea, Indonesia and Taiwan and loved every second of it. This will be Jeff’s first time, he is very excited and motivated!

My previous experiences with workaway include:
- Teaching young children aged 8-15 in Seoul for 1 month.
- Working at an English language cafe teaching conversational English to all ages in Busan for 2 months.
- Teaching children English in Muna, South East Sulawesi Indonesia in the middle of a jungle for 1 month.
- Cleaning and renovation of a Hostel in Taiwan, Ximen district.

We really hope to explore new cultures and interact with people from around the world. We LOVE challenges so will be available to help with anything such as renovation, farming, cleaning etc. I hope WorkAway will give us the immersion to give back to nature and the community, and meet some lovely people along the way. We are very familiar with travel lodging and voluntary work etiquette and we hope to be a bubbly addition to the job!

I have a first class degree in Digital Media and can help out with any technical requirements! Myself and Jeff have worked in the service industry for 10+ years each and want to get our hands dirty with work and make you proud!

Wowww! I’ve had the best time here staying with your lovely family and I am so happy I had this opportunity. I spent two weeks here and had such a spectacular time. Tonno’s lifestyle is perfect and I will forever always be jealous!! The location was perfect and just what I wanted from a Workaway experience, the wooden stilt house and outdoor… read more toilet and bucket shower was perfect for enjoying the relaxed lifestyle. And as the village is small, it allows lots of time to reflect, relax, read your books, play with the children in the neighbourhood, play sports all together with the family! It was 2 weeks of blissful solitude and I am so lucky to have had this experience.

The work itself was very fun, the students were extremely enthusiastic to learn (which after 2 months of voluntary teaching prior to this, where the students didn’t particularly want to be there, this was lovely!) each and every student I taught were so eager to understand new things. There is no set curriculum and sometimes the lesson timings can vary and change every day. You may have days where you have one class or another day you may teach 3 classes. But the earliest a lesson would start is 2pm – which is very nice. It was fun to think of new things to teach the students other than the typical introduction, food, hobbies kind of stuff and they all seemed to enjoy the lessons especially involving interactive games. Now, Tonno himself is a really amazing person, he is one of the happiest, optimistic and enthusiastic people I have met! He has a lovely mindset about the world and dreams and we had many conversations talking about this. And I have come away from this experience feeling very content. The family Ina, Niar and Anti are wonderful also. The food every meal time really made this experience so authentic, cooked on a fire. There are many things to do in your spare time (which you will have A LOT of!) such as visiting the beautiful lakes, beaches, islands, markets. This is not some typical school, it is run with so much heart and passion and I wish all the best in the future for the school’s’ developments, and I wish the best for the family also. I definitely will be back!

:asterisk_symbol:A note for future workawayers, don’t forget to bring a book to read for your downtime and also maybe saving some room in your bags for classic English books for the school and family’s home library – these will be humbly received.
:asterisk_symbol:Collection from the airport is by motorbike and a 2 hour journey, so if your bags are very big or heavy possibly mention this to Tonno before so something can be arranged!
