Description
Hi!
I am Tem, from Brisbane, Australia. I have been travelling and working around the UK since 2023 on a Youth Mobility Visa. Now that my visa has finished, I am doing some travelling before heading off to New Zealand! I first found out about workaway from volunteering at music festivals in Australia. I have always loved to volunteer, try out new jobs, and be a part of a community.
I am qualified as a veterinary nurse with 6 years of experience, so I have excellent skills in reception, cleaning, and animal handling. As a workawayer and hospitality worker on the Isle of Skye, I worked in hotels, cafes, and restaurants doing front-of-house, housekeeping, and assistant chef work. My other workaways include helping with a dog rescue, campsite repairs, and setting up festivals. I’ve learnt many new skills, from making dog enclosures and wiring lights to sanding houses and setting up campsite taps. I thrive on having a purpose and a goal to achieve.
I also worked at a small local garden centre in Portree and spent lots of time in people's gardens weeding and planting. This has completely re-inspired my love of gardening! Learning about all the plants and what grows when has made me want to study permaculture, which is my plan for New Zealand. I love cooking wonderful meals from the harvest as well as forgaing, and I even made jam for the first time ever—which was an absolute hit at the campsite!
In my free time I really enjoy hiking, reading and creating art. In the past year I have delved into the world of lino pritning. I did my first ever long-distance hike on the Fisherman’s Trail in Portugal, and I am already itching to go on the next one! -

More details about your skills
I love trying new things. I have worked in a few varying jobs, between veterinary nursing, kitchen porter, assistant chef, front of house, reception, horticulture, pet sitting, sales and being a cashier I am always searching for something that is hands on. I have done the most in veterinary nursing, working between general practise, specialist medicine and emergency I am very passionate about animal care and welfare. In 2023 a lot of volunteering at festivals in Australia. I worked with the garbage and recycling crew, managed the glamping and ran internal traffic.
After my time working in a nursery I have always maintained a garden and I am trying to broaden my knowledge on permaculture.
My first workaway I helped building putdoor enclosures for Rescue dogs in Valencia Spain, using a variety of materials and tools.
My second workaway I did weeding, grass trimming, cooking, cleaning and garden maintenance on Mallorca.
My third workaway I assisted with the set up of a festival in the south of France. I did grass trimming, assisted with building dry toilets, assisted with wiring lights, assisted building a childrens area, setting up tents and creating signs as well as helping in the communal kitchen/cleaning.
At my fourth workaway I assisted at a wild campsite in Italy, I helped check in campers, kept communical areas clean, feed, walked and watered the dogs, chickens and donkeys. I also helped clear and organise the vegetable garden and harvest food for cooking of communal meals.
At my fifth workaway I was fron of house at a hostel in Croatia. I checked in and greeted guests and helped keep the kitchen and communal areas tidy. I helped organise grouo events for in the common area and reccomended nearby attractions and tours for tourists.
In 2024 I spent some time working in the UK. I first worked on the remote Isle of Rum, I was in the bunkhouse there and kept the common areas, bathrooms, campsite and cabins clean and maintained to a very high standard.
I also worked at a Cafe on the Isle of Skye, I worked between the kitchen and front of house. It was my first time working in a kitchen setting where I got to assist with preparing food for paying customers! I also helped with local music and arts events in the area.
After the 2024 Summer season I started working in an Inn as a kitchen porter. I have taken on further responsibilities by helping with prepation of food, cooking and playing meals. It has been an exciting new challenge.
In 2025 I worked between a Bed and Breakfast and a garden centre. Here I helped in all areas from sales to planting and growing. I helped to maintenance on the grounds around the hotel as well. -
