Hi !
I'm 23 years old and come from Ghent, the most beautiful city of Belgium.
When I was 18 I started travelling by myself mostly on the eastern side of the world map. Now I'm heading to South America to explore the beauties of Patagonia.

To put in short I'm a person who loves life. All aspects of it: nature, history, culture, food, arts, sports,...
I love to learn about different cultures and languages, be part of various environments, to speak for hours about multiple things, to work with my hands and get a project done.

I can help in various different areas, I do have a preference for projects related to nature, wildlife with an eye on sustainability and knowledge of one's environment.

I'm enthusiastic, motivated, respectful and always eager to learn.

I worked in the kitchen of a restaurant as a cook and a dishwasher so I have some cooking experience. I gave field hockey training. I work in my garden a lot. I like physical work as much as I like to do more thinking work either. I’m not afraid to get dirty if I need to and I’m always willing to learn new things

Fantastic experience !

I stayed for only 10 days at Toto and Marlene's place but I've had a wonderful time. I'll try to give the most constructive feedback for people wanting to go.

1) The place

First of all the place. Valle del Leon is one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. It's a valley where people live from their cattle,… read more firewood and some vegetables they grow. There are no roads. You can only walk or ride on horseback and Toto and Marlene's house is the very last one in the valley so it takes about 3 to 4 hours (walking) to get there from Paso El Leon (which is accesible by car from Argentina).
The hike to the house is wonderful and people in the valley are very nice.
The house is super cosy as well. We were 3 volunteers and each his own room with a comfortable bed.

2) The work

In summer, Toto and Marlene mainly need help for cutting firewood and hay. They have a fire going on all the time. It is essential for heating and cooking. Many of their animals eat hay in winter so they need a lot of that too. Mornings typically start around 7 and the work is quite physical. It's also not really a place where you count the hours you work. Toto is used to work all day and we didn't have any issues doing so either. Especially since after the 10 days I was there most of the work was done and days were much calmer.

3) The communication

In this house you will speak Spanish and Spanish only. The chilean accent is not the easiest to understand and one of an isolated valley in the Andes can be really though to keep up with. However, after some time we understood most of it. Toto loves to chat during lunch or diner, he likes to tell his stories and is interested in yours too.

4) The food

As I said work can be tough which means you can get really hungry. Luckily, Marlene is an amazing cook. She cooks big portions of nutritious meals 3 times a day. Be aware though, meat is on the menu for lunch and dinner. Depending on the time of year you'll be eating lamb, cow, sheep, turkey or something else twice a day. Plant-based protein will be rare and there are no shops in the valley so be prepared if you're vegetarian.

5) Free time

Due to the isolation once again, there aren't many things to do outside of work. You can go walk around in the valley or have a chat with Toto or Marlene. I recommend brining a book or an instrument. If you need some me-time without any distractions this is the place for you.

All in all, I had a superb time. I really enjoyed the physical work, the people, the house and valley, the food, the games of truco and the working routine. It is a unique place in which you will encounter the beauty of the simple and ancient farm life. Perfect for those looking for an authentic experience or to get away from civilisation and reconnect with nature in its purest form.

When I arrived at their house, the Pryor family were having guests but took me in immediately as a member of the family.
I helped with weeding, cleaning and feeding the animals.
