  • Description

    Hello,
I am Silas an 18 year old guy from Germany. After finishing school this year, I decided that I wanted to visit new places and meet new people instead of going to university.
I enjoy being in the forest, not only to hike and camp but also to work. Since my fist memories of my dad taking me with him to make firewood, I always enjoyed the sound of chainsaws and the smell of fresh wood. Now I like it even more since I can cut down trees and chop wood on my own. This is also one of the reasons why I chose Canada as my destination, since Canada has a lot of big forests. Besides working in the forest I also like to build stuff out of wood by doing so I have acquired some basic carpenter skills.
I like to keep the memories of my tours in form of photos. And I am constantly working on my skills to improve my photography, and to edit taken pictures especially I like to make videos out of my best pictures. However being outside and expiring the adventure is always the top priority.
Being spontaneous has to sides, on the one hand I am always up for an adventure and have no problem with a change of plan, on the other hand I am sometimes not prepared or didn’t know what I have gotten myself into : ) I am an really curious person who likes to learn new thinks (skills and knowledge), but I am also happy if I can help someone out in subjected I know about.
I am looking forward to all the new experiences I will make and the amazing people I have and will meet on my way.

    ----------------------------

    Hello everyone,

I’m Alena from Germany, a good school friend of Silas. I’m 18 years old and just finished high school. Before attending university, I decided to do a gap year (summer 2024 until summer 2025) abroad, which I am going to spend (and already spent) mostly with traveling all over the world, hoping to get to know many new countries, cultures and nice people :-). Hopefully, I will be able to take many new and interesting experiences with me that will broaden my horizons and increase my understanding of this world.
At the moment, Silas and I are not traveling together yet, but I am going to visit him in Canada in spring 2025. During my journey, I’ve been traveling through Europe so far together with friends. I spent most of the time climbing in the Alps. Currently, I’m enjoying autumn in Spain while climbing and learning a bit of Spanish there, but soon we’ll travel further to Morocco. As I’ve always been curious to get to know Canada because of its breathtaking landscape and nature, I’m really looking forward to being there next spring.
I love being in nature in general – first of all, I enjoy climbing which I have learned in the beautiful Saxon Switzerland nearby my hometown, but also hiking, bivouacking with my friends, trekking and swimming. Furthermore, I also have creative hobbies such as drawing, painting and a bit of sewing. I enjoy listening to good music and singing as well as cooking healthy. Last but not least, I often read books for I’m always curious to get to know something new about nature, science, history, politics and actually nearly everything :-).
During my childhood, my grandfather taught me how to work with wood and now and then we created some little stuff, so I think I have some few manual skills that I liked to improve if you could teach me some. I have also gained a bit of experience in gardening while my family and I had our own garden. During our school time, I organized some stuff for the class and also for our group of friends so that we would hike, climb and bivouac together.
With the help of workaway, I’m looking forward to getting to know friendly people from allover the world by working together with them respectfully and in general having a nice time together. I wish to exchange knowledge about anything interesting and practical. I hope to gain experience in physical work such as gardening or working with animals and I also wish to improve my craftsmanship skills. As I like the idea of humans living and working together with nature respectfully and peacefully, I’m eager to learn about anything new that helps making my lifestyle more sustainable and that helps protecting the environment.

Looking forward to meeting you :-)
    Alena
