As an avid learner soon to graduate , I am now looking to learn more outside of the classroom. After a spring studying yoga in Nepal, I plan to explore working with sheep and ethically creating wool.

  • Description

    Hello my name is Shannon!

From rural Nova Scotia, Canada, I have always been inspired by wild flowers, gardens, history, family and the ocean.

I am graduating this spring from the University of Waterloo in Canada with degrees in Natural Resource Sustainability and International Development. While in school I have kept an apartment wild with plants and in between semesters I have worked and volunteered on multiple farms and planted hundreds of thousands of trees in the Canadian boreal forest.

This summer when I graduate I will be first spending some time in Nepal to study the art of teaching yoga. Then I will travel some with my fiancé in Asia. We will finish our journey helping out on a farm in Kenya owned by the family of a friend of mine, where I plan to get some more experience working with cattle.

Though I am so excited for all of this, I am most excited by my end of summer plans to go to Ireland- the land my ancestors came from before Canada- to learn to work with sheep, something that has always been a dream of mine.

Ever since, I was a child and I attended a fair where some ladies in front of me calmly and beautifully used their hands to spin and dye wool, the image has not left my mind. My desire to learn this art and care for this animal has only grown as I have grown and learned of the sustainability of wool as an organic fibre.

Overall, I consider myself a well rounded girl, educated and caring, with a great love for greenery and sustainable lifestyles. I am excited to begin my journey here on workaway. I look forward to the learning great wisdom about both self sufficient and business oriented farming lifestyles from the wonderful hosts on this platform.
