  • Description

I am Rosa, a recently graduated medical school student, and eager to take a meaningful pause from my studies to travel the world, connect with people, and immerse myself in different cultures. I believe the most rewarding experiences come from giving back and being part of a community, which is why I am excited to lend a helping hand through Workaway.

Although my background is in medicine, I am eager to step out of that role and embrace any kind of work. Whether it’s creative tasks, hands-on projects, cooking, animal care, or anything in between! I’m enthusiastic, adaptable, and ready to contribute wherever needed. My time in university taught me discipline, empathy, and the importance of teamwork — qualities that I carry into all areas of life.

My partner Pablo was born in Guatemala but grew up in the U.S. He is professional photographer and currently works as a photographer and outdoor school teacher educating kids about the natural world. He has traveled quite a bit in his life and deeply believes that traveling expands the human experience. His dream is to build a hostel in his home country of Guatemala and promote a more conscious and sustainable form of tourism.

If you are curious you can see his work on Instagram @Iam_pablovan or his website www.pablovanphotography.com

In the past he has worked on off the grid farms, eco-projects, and permaculture projects. He is always looking to expand his knowledge and loves to learn new ways to do things. He is organised, patient, hardworking and adaptable.

He has a wide range of skills including: CPR and wilderness first aid, photography, knows Adobe Creative cloud, working with power tools, tour guiding and educating (he is very comfortable working with people).

In his free time he likes to surf, read, hike, camp, cook, take photos, and travel. He is great with kids and animals.

We are looking forward to hearing and sharing stories, learning from others, and building connections that will last long after our travels. We feel grateful for the chance to work alongside like minded people and are confident that we can bring positivity, dedication, and a genuine willingness to help.

  • More details about your skills

We bring first aid skills and advanced medical knowledge, problem solving skills, the ability to teach and make people understand in an easy way. We are very adaptable and quick learners.

We enjoy cooking a lot, have lots of experience in animal care, gardening and some in maintenance around the house, like painting, woodworking, sanding, as well as varnishing.

I (Rosa) love drawing, doing macrame and stitching - so anything creative is my jam. During this past winter I created several murals for a hostel while traveling in Guatemala, which was a process I loved so much that I could just draw for 13 hours straight, forgetting time during the process.

I have lots of experience in childcare. For four summers in a row I worked at a summer camp for kids from the ages of 3 to 15 which included planning their daily activities, being there for them as a mentor they could tell anything to and cooking their daily meals. In Nepal I worked in an orphanage and taught English in a school in the Himalayas.

Pablo has amazing skills in any outdoor and maintenance activity. In January he worked in a school in Guatemala learning how to build housing systems out of sustainable materials, reusing waste materials and giving them a second purpose. In Hawaii he built houses solely made out of bamboo and worked as a florist.
The last two summers worked as a outdoor school teacher, doing week-long trips with children while teaching them the beautiful and interesting sides about nature.
