  • Description

Hi, I'm Richard from the UK. I'm a very motivated, positive person who has a passion for learning.

I'm a very conscientious and hard working person and I find happiness in doing something meaningful, whether that is intellectual, or being outdoors doing physical work (or a mixture of both).

I love travelling and soaking up as much of the culture and atmosphere as I can. I enjoy learning from different cultures, and I hope this workaway will be a valuable, unforgettable experience.

  • More details about your skills

I have studied undergraduate Biochemistry at York, and received a PhD in 2020 from Bristol University, and have since been working in research in cell biology. For this type of work you need to be very focused, motivated and passionate. I believe I approach all aspects of my life with this attitude. I think that if you're going to do something, you should do it right and put as much effort as you can.

Although I spend my days in a lab, I enjoy being outdoors. I help my father in his garden and helping to start his allotment in London (where I'm originally from). This started as a complete mess of weeds and brambles, and we spent a summer clearing it, planting it and now it produces veggies and fruit. I don't shy away from hard work but dive in and willing to help wherever I can. I spent a month redecorating our house in London, and so I'd say I'm quite "handy" around the house and can turn my attention to DIY, painting, carpentry etc... Or at least I'll give anything a go. I'm also very willing to learn new skills.

  • What else ...

I enjoy good conversation, good company and good food.
I also enjoy the peace of nature, reading, contemplating and learning.
I care a lot about the environment, so I'm very fond of sustainability and interested in learning about more ecological and organic ways of living.
I enjoy hiking and exploring the local area. As an undergraduate I hitchhiked from UK to Morocco for charity.
I play chess (although I wouldn't necessarily say I'm very good)
My dream will (hopefully) one day own some land I can cultivate and make my own produce (I love wine and olive oil) in the sun, and have a peaceful, wholesome life. I hope doing this workaway I could learn some of these skills, hear stories of people that have done this, or on their journey towards this.
