Hello! I’m Riko from Japan. I’m 29years old.
I work in public relations.
I’m an open-minded and sociable person who loves meeting new people and engaging in meaningful conversations.
My hobbies include cooking ,baking bread and making sweets, as well as hiking and camping .

I love exchanging ideas and learning about different cultures.

The purpose of my journey is to live alongside local people in various countries, share our cultures, learn new perspectives, and also contribute in my own way while experiencing different ways of life.

My ideal is to build warm, trusting relationships with people around the world—like family. This is why I joined Workaway.

♡Cooking & Baking
Since I enjoy cooking, I’m happy to prepare Japanese dishes such as omurice, okonomiyaki, hand-rolled sushi, katsudon, karaage, and nikujaga!

I would be happy to make Japanese breads such as white bread, anko bread, melon pan, and gluten-free rice bread. I also make sweets like mitarashi dango and yogurt cake.

♡I love children
I have volunteered at kindergartens and orphanages. I often cook and play with my friends’ children.

Looking back on my own childhood, some of my most cherished memories were moments spent interacting with people of different ages and backgrounds, as well as sharing handmade meals together. These experiences have shaped my values and perspective on life.

I want to create similar meaningful memories with children around the world.

When I was in elementary school, I took art classes and developed a passion for drawing and creating.

At university, I studied in the Faculty of Foreign Studies, focusing on the languages and cultures of Taiwan, China, and Indonesia.

♡Nature place
Through experiences like mountain climbing, staying in mountain huts, and travel, I’ve come to deeply appreciate the sense of freedom found in nature and the warmth of human connections. Staying in mountain huts has taught me to find many small luxuries even in inconveniences, sparking a fascination with living amidst nature. I value learning the unique perspectives and culture of each region I visit while building genuine and respectful relationships with the locals.

【My travel plan】◦⊹⋯⋯⋯⊹◦ ⋯⋯⋯

In this March, I plan to volunteer in Nepal by cooking Japanese food for children at an orphanage. After that, I will embark on a journey to various countries, including Germany, Italy, Indonesia, Australia, Spain, southern France, Belgium, Denmark, the Czech Republic, Austria, and Hungary.

※ I am still looking for hosts in Australia（Perth）, southern France（Nice）, Belgium（Brussels）, the Czech Republic（Prague）, Austria, and Hungary.

If you are interested in hosting me, I would love the opportunity to connect, share cultures, and contribute in any way I can. I am excited to immerse myself in local life and create meaningful experiences together!

Additionally, if the opportunity arises, I would love to visit Turkey and Mexico as well.

I also hope to spend an extended period in Taiwan.

I’m still working on improving my English-speaking skills.
I’d like to make friends who are from different countries and talk about different cultures.

I had the absolute joy of spending ten days with Talley for my very first Workaway experience!

From start to finish, she was the most generous, thoughtful, and warm-hearted host I could have ever hoped for.

The first half of my stay was at her home, and the second was in a beautiful village where her parents live. Though the time was short, my… read more days were filled with so much warmth and kindness that I will cherish forever.

When I arrived after a long flight, tired and jetlagged, Talley welcomed me with a fresh, colorful salad full of vegetables and offered me gentle options for how to spend the rest of the day: “Would you like a nap? A walk in nature? A stroll through the city?” From that moment, I felt completely safe, supported, and cared for.

Work tasks included garden maintenance and vegetable preparation, always carried out in a peaceful and respectful atmosphere. Talley never rushed me, always made sure I felt comfortable, and appreciated my help with genuine gratitude.

Outside of work, she gave me unforgettable opportunities to explore local life — from charming streets in Wiesbaden, to an organ concert at a church, and even a gourmet market. Her love for her city and community was infectious.

She also helped me practice riding a bicycle when she noticed I wasn’t confident — thanks to her patience and encouragement, I could bike safely to the garden. On our way there, she would point out interesting places, making even the smallest moments exciting.

She noticed I only had light-colored clothes and kindly lent me workwear and shoes in my size — a small act that meant so much. She was always thinking ahead to make sure I was comfortable and happy.

Talley also prepared delicious, healthy meals — soups, salads, breads, cakes, and cheeses — always with variety and care. As a bread lover, I truly looked forward to breakfast every morning.

Talley is not only a wonderful host but a deeply caring person who brings light and joy to those around her. She owns several beautiful rooms in her parents’ village, and is thoughtfully preparing the space so that more Workawayers can share meals and moments together in the future. With her vision and heart, I have no doubt it will become a truly magical place.

If you have the chance to stay with Talley, take it — you will not only enjoy a unique cultural experience, but also feel truly seen, valued, and at home.

I was honored to be Riko´s first Workaway host and she spent 10 days with me. Half of the time we stayed at my shared apartment in Wiesbaden and even shared the same room. I only do this once in a while when I have the feeling it could work out and my guests agree in forehand. The other five days we were at my parents' guest house in a rural area… read more with plenty of room. Both places offer lots of beautiful nature Riko enjoyed. Once in a while, Riko needed to work online for a Japanese company and stayed up late, like I do. So we started some days a little late due to my routines and the time difference to Japan. Riko is very disciplined and I had the feeling she plans her days very well. In the long run, it would have been better if Riko had a room for herself the entire stay due to her online work. Still, we got along well and I have the feeling we solved all the challenges well.

We were quite active and not only spent working time together but also free time and explored my home city Wiesbaden twice together. Other times she went on her own after I gave her detailed recommendations. Riko took her volunteer work seriously and was always respectful, peaceful, and cheerful. She has a good spirit or you could say vibe.

Riko helped at my garden allotment in Wiesbaden 5 km away from the apartment I share with others. We reached the garden twice per bike. Eventhough Riko did not drive a bike for ten years. After I asked her to first practice a while I noticed she learns fast and she could follow me well threw different streets in the center we had to pass to get to the other side of beautiful Wiesbaden. At the garden, she patiently picked wild garlic and cut long-dead vines into small pieces. At my shared kitchen she helped scrub root vegetables and cut other organic local veggies. At my parents' place, many more organic vegetables were waiting to be prepared for meals and everything got ready on time. Before Riko left she made some delicious Japanese bread rolls and dumplings with ingredients she brought from Japan, she was excited to prepare before she arrived. I think we could have found the ingredients here, but as Riko likes to prepare herself well, we did not need to look for the ingredients and I, as well as my parents, were delighted about the interesting and beneficial cultural exchange.

I wish Riko all the best, and many inspiring grateful new hosts and meetings with travel enthusiasts as she is.
