Description
Hello! My name is Skylar I am a 22-year-old recent graduate from Seattle, Washington, USA. Since finishing up my degree in journalism my next endeavor is to continue my travels, learning about different languages, lands, cultures, and people through working abroad. I am motivated by and find great joy in the arts: music, writing, cooking, and creating.
This is my second year on Workaway, my first being in 2022 working in Ireland and Scotland.
Here, I spent the Fall at a pig sanctuary and the Winter fixing up an artist's retreat and working at their air BnB, as well as house sitting. I cherish the volunteer and local communities I was able to immerse in as well as every lesson I gained from my hosts.
Some of my other experiences include:
- 10 years volunteering at an animal rescue center taking care of all kinds of animals; including reptiles, farm animals, exotic birds, dogs, cats, and more! During her time at Center Valley, she also helped with farm maintenance. This included handiwork for the barns as well as field upkeep.
- Three summers teaching in Thailand and learning about maintaining rice fields and traditional Thai cooking.
- Studying in Rome learning about writing, language, and native wildlife. I will be returning to Rome at the beginning of my travels this year and growing proficiency in language.
- I am currently working as a server and bartender in a restaurant in Seattle and have 5 years guest service work prior to this
- 6 years nanny experience, 10 years house sitting, pet sitting, gardening
- I grew up in a small farming town where I learned to take care of native land and animals as well as work on sail boats.
I love being outdoors and being introduced to all types of life. I'm very driven by community and am so grateful for the towns, families, and teams I have been lucky enough to join and am excited for the opportunity to connect with more people and places.
