  • Description

Hey there! I'm Patrick Mayer, a Mechanical Engineering and Classical Civilizations student at Lafayette College. At Lafayette, I'm a welder for the Automotive Racing Team, a rower for the Crew Team, and an avid adventurer in the Outdoor's Society. I grew up in Richmond, Virginia, where I ran competitive track and developed a strong appreciation for academics. I enjoy woodworking, reading, athletic training, and exploring the local area in my free time. Several years ago, I went on my first trip abroad to Italy and found that the change in lifestyle, perspective, and culture was thought-provoking and life-changing. As I age, I hope to continue to expose myself to more perspectives and experiences to develop a greater depth of character.

  • More details about your skills

I've taken 5 years of woodworking classes throughout middle and high school focusing on hand tool and power tool furniture making. I've done projects for several clients as well as have had pieces on display in a local gallery. Professionally, I've worked as a carpenter for a local escape room business.

My grandparents also live on a farm. Although they lease the fields out to a neighbor, I grew up helping out with home repair, landscaping, and other odd jobs as they arose. I've continued this tradition of DIY at my childhood home with my parents, and I've even volunteered my experience through Habitat For Humanity to help build several houses for low-income families.

Recently, I've learned how to TIG weld. This is part of my experience in building an electric race car for Lafayette College. I currently hold a shop certification for my welds and am improving them with bi-weekly lessons this semester.

In terms of language, I took several years of Spanish throughout high school, and my mother is a Spanish teacher at St.Christopher's School. I'm far from fluent, but I understand enough to get the point across. Throughout late May and June of 2025, I'll be studying Italian in Florence, Italy.

My formal education has been centered around STEM classes, English Literature, and a little bit of history. As is the nature of these classes, I've developed good organization, planning, and problem solving skills. This STEM focus has also taught me a little bit of CAD software in addition to Google Workplace/Microsoft Office.

By nature of being a competitive athlete, state champion, and multi-season team Captain, I've learned to be independent, disciplined, perform under high stress, and how to create a healthy environment that promotes growth in the individual and team.

  • What else ...

I love the outdoors—exploring, swimming, hiking, being physically active, and appreciating the environment. I also enjoy eating and would love to learn how to cook. Additionally, I do a fair amount of dog sitting and yard work for my neighbors. I've spent my recent summers working at a Cakery/Café and an Ice Cream Bar/Café. Lastly, I enjoy listening to most genres of music and watching movies. Some of my favorite artists are Hauser, Josh Groban, Andrea Bocelli, and The Weeknd.

    • Allergies
Nuts and seasonal allergies. They are all VERY well controlled. I can consume trace amounts of nuts. So, it's not the end of the world if I have something with a nut ingredient, but it's best if I avoid consuming them.

    • Special dietary requirements
      Avoid consuming nuts.
