Hello there! My name is Nienke, I'm a 20 year old girl from the Netherlands. I'm in University and try to keep travelling during my breaks

My passion lies with animals and plants (at this moment my room is filled with 25 plants, so you could say I am a plant lover). I have been horseback riding for the past 12 years, so I would love to help you with your horses. We have two dachshunds, very stubborn small dogs, they are very cute and I love to try and teach them new tricks, but later in my life I would love to have a bigger dog. My dream is to go husky sledding one day.

I love meeting new people! During my gap year I already made so many new friends that sometimes even feel like family.

Talking English is no problem, Dutch will be even easier and other languages would be awesome to learn. My hobbies are drawing, reading and photography. I love dogs and taking long walks with them through the forest or at the beach. I also like surfing (I've had a few lessons :) ), skiing (a lot of winter holidays), and horseback riding of course!

I'm good with animals and kids. I am a fast learner and a social person. I wouldn't say photography is a skill of mine, but the pictures I take aren't bad :)
I love cooking so I will be able to make some meals, but I would love to learn more recipes.
I also really like teaching dogs new commands, so one my dachshunds is now able to do a lot of tricks xD (The other one sadly doesn't like it that much, she will do it, but only for food)

Staying with Michael and Tina for three weeks was an amazing experience. My trip from the Netherlands did not go without trouble and I ended up arriving 45 minutes from there house at midnight, but they still picked me up. The first few days there was another Workawayer, she was vey nice and we had a really good time. She explained how everything… read more worked, taught me the names of the horses and took me on walks with the dog so I knew where to go when she left. Even though I only stayed three weeks Micheal, Tina, Maria and even Lesse when I only met him a few times, felt like my second family.

You are very free in what you do, the only thing that really needs to be done is feeding the horses and fill up their water. When it froze we needed to do some more work to make sure they always had acces to water, but still the 'work' part was done at 11:00, when waking up at 8. And that includes walking with Kelzo, the amazing border collie dog wich you can't really call work because it's so much fun.

Micheal likes photography and lent me his camera when we went to the zoo and when I took pictures of the other Workaway girl with the horses before she left, he also taught me how photoshop works and it was really fun. We also fixed fences together wich was my first time so I learned a lot! He's also really good at cooking (and making pizza's, he has his own dough mixer and pizza oven xD) even though I am vegetarian I've had the most wonderful meals.

Tina is an amazing baker and so is her daughter so we had the most delicious cookies and other sweets. Tina encouraged me to make nice bracelets with the huge box of pearls she had, I had a great time.

I spent Christmas at their place, sadly the snow that lay there just melted so no white Christmas, but their family was really nice. I learned a lot about the danish culture then. I met a lot of people who came to the house and I think it's just something Danish, but everyone was so nice!

The horses are really cute and I miss them so much. I didn't ride as much as I would have loved to because of the frozen riding arena and the slippery roads outside, but just being around them made me really happy. And the rides I did make were really nice. Three of their horses are with foal and Micheal showed me the stallions so I am really exited to see pictures of the foals in the spring!

Tina and Michael thank you so much for these amazing weeks, it was real hygge, I will see you again!
Maybe until 2024 :)
