Greetings,

My name is Nicolette, a 52-year-young female artist specializing in both natural materials and digital mediums. I am also a creative chef, and the former owner, founder, and renovator of a guesthouse. With no dependents, I am as free as a bird.

My journey began at the age of 12, with my first stop in Botswana, sparking a lifelong love for adventure. Having traveled to 21 countries, I recently discovered Workaway and can only express my gratitude and excitement for this platform.

As a Nomadic African Artist, I always leave a piece of myself behind. My work, often created under the full moon, utilizes mediums such as mud, cow dung, grasses, sticks, straw, cement, and cloth. I am a deep thinker and problem solver, inspired by the people and environments around me. My quiet moments are spent walking and sketching, drawing inspiration from the world.

Additionally, I offer foot massages, a skill I honed in Thailand. I am a dedicated, hands-on worker, a team player, and I love sharing my ideas and travel stories.

I eagerly anticipate the adventures and connections that lie ahead on this beautiful planet we call home.

I was honored to be chosen to stay with Maika and Volker, "out of this world opulence and nature meeting".
Maika is so well informed on the vegetation of the area, she takes her guests on sunset walks, to the waterfall and into the forest Then spoils them with an informative olive oil and olive tasting experience, accompanied with homemade bread… read more by Chef Lona at the harvest table. It’s pared with a spectacular view of the olive grove and the setting sun, all served to perfection by the capable friendly staff with a refreshing Gin and Tonic. Always a Wow! from the guests. One feels like you are in an Africa meets Tuscany setting, nestled against the Paarl Mountains.
Her husband Volker is the fundi on the growing and making of their most delicious olive oil I have ever tasted (I have travelled to ancient Spanish groves in Mallorca), and he is very funny too when he presents his olive oil tasting talks. I had the opportunity to cook with it and even use it as an eye treatment and a skin moisturizer.
A World Class olive oil! The packaging is very unique and preserves your golden green EVOO liquid for longer, out of the ordinary presentation.
If you are chosen to stay at this place, consider yourself honored and blessed. Go mediate at the waterfall and walk the pine forests, pick lemons by the river and observe the beauty, which they look after and care about. The free roaming geese are the pest controllers of the olive groves and are on guard at night. Their artichoke garden produces the most abundant crop, baskets full of green and purple bulbs of creamy taste, ready to be prepped and enjoyed.
Learn from Maika when it comes to creative sewing, she is extremely talented.
The staff are local and informative of the area, wonderful team players and dedicated to their work. It's all hands-on deck at The WVR, so be prepared to jump in and learn all you can from the team, and in turn they are willing to learn from you. Chef Lona can cook up a storm of deliciousness at the drop of a hat, talented indeed.
Maika was very compassionate and kind when I had a personal problem (elderly mother was extremely ill in UK) and to another staff member as well.
She runs her establishment with flare and structure, keeping an eye on every detail. Her guests want for nothing and are truly pamper by herself and her team, who are extremely loyal unto her, her family and the establishment.
Hours might be a bit erratic, however Maika is very fair on making up for your time off and has extensive knowledge of the area and surrounding areas, for travel convenience, you will get the cream of the crop travel info.
Renovations and upgrades where in play during my stay. In an establishment like WVR, it will always be so, keeping up with the times and something always needs fixing or replacing, trust me, it's the name of the game when it comes to hospitality.
The place boosts unprecedent style and glamour, the guests every need is catered for with a smile, nothing is too big or too small.
I hope one day to fulfill the art piece I never got to complete.
All in all, an unforgettable, life changing stay.

Nicolette is an inspiration :-) her experience really allows you to exchange ideas on an operational and creative level. The perfect balance. She puts her dedication and work force into anything you through at her, but I regret not having made us of more of her art talents. Looking forward to welcome Nicolette again.
