  • Description

The beautiful and diverse landscapes of New Zealand drew me in as I would love to explore all of the mountains, valleys, rivers, and more it has to offer. I love long, challenging hikes and camping. I am quite enthusiastic and energetic and a true challenge makes me feel excited. I have lots of experience outdoors from volunteering on environmental stewardship projects, to completing overnight hikes. I also enjoy gardening and I always want to learn more about an area's ecosystem and history. I recently had a trip to Peru where I stayed mostly in hostels and there I found it thrilling to always be making new friends and to explore the highest mountains and see so many different animals as well. That experience gave me even more confidence that I would love a Workaway program in New Zealand where I could not only meet new people, but also help communities and spend time outdoors. I am eager to start!

I am interested in teaching English. I have worked for two months as an English tutor for Highschool students before and I enjoyed that time very much. I would love to help people become more proficient in the English language from writing, reading, to speaking as well.

  • More details about your skills

I have a range of skills as I love to learn and pick up new things whenever I can. First of all, I speak English fluently and my second languages are French and Romanian. I also have had a dog for four years and lots of experience with taking care of animals. As well, since I was young I have been volunteering for environmental stewardship programs where I would help take out invasive weeds, build fences, and plant native species. Recently, I worked at a summer camp where I taught children many survival skills for outdoors such as building fires, shelters, and even how to paddle in canoes and kayaks. On the other hand, I have also worked in kitchens and bars. I first was the bar maid for a restaurant where I made both coffee and alcoholic drinks for the whole restaurant. Then, at the same summer camp I previously mentioned, I also worked in the kitchen for half the summer where we fed 200 people every day. This taught me how to do difficult physical work, manage many tasks at once, stay flexible to people's dietary restrictions, and have efficient communication with the team I was working with. As well, I am working on my Undergraduate degree with a major in Sociology. I have learned a lot about people and how they work which helps me have a more open minded outlook on the world. Over the years, I have also had personal projects that developed many hard and soft skills. I am very good at working with my hands as I taught myself to crochet, carve wood, and even sculpt clay. As well, I have experience in film as I recently filmed a documentary as a personal project where I taught myself through research and asking friends how to use a camera and a proper editing software. This experience also taught me many soft skills in terms of dealing with my film subjects as I had to understand how to portray their personalities and life stories with dignity. Overall, I have a variety of skills that I can put forward into any job and I am more than willing to learn new things as well!

  • What else ...

Most of my hobbies have to do with working with my hands in a creative way. I love to sew and crochet to create new unique clothes I can wear. Other than this, I also love spending time outdoors like hiking, biking and skiing.
