Description
My name is Marissa Bakker, I´m a 34 year old dutch girl who was born in Portugal. After living in this amazing country for about twenty years, I moved to The Netherlands to study law and stayed there for a few more years to work. Last summer (aug 2023) I finaly made the decision to come back to my home country and until now I did not regret making this decision.
Before moving to the Netherlands I had two gap years. During the first year I spent three months in Australia backpacking and in my second gap year I went to Brasil for two months. Apart from backpacking I did some voluntary work (mainly gardening) and worked as a waitress in a pancake restaurant. After graduation I also had two gap years and went to India to travel for two months. I also spend two months in Morocco and there I had my first workaway experience helping out at an animal sanctuary. A couple of months later I went to Greece and had my second workaway experience helping out at an NGO which provide first needs to asylum seekers. Last but not least I recently came back from spending a few months travelling through latin america where I attended my very first rereat.
In my daily life I like going for walks, hikes and swim. My main hobbies and interests are travelling, sighseeing, meeting people from different cultures and learning new languages. Having spend some time in India, my interest in meditation, breathwork and practising yoga has been increasing and I would like to continue working on this and eventually join a course or training in it.
At the moment I'm travelling with a van though Portugal looking for a new workaway experience that catches my attention. I'm not working so I'm very flexible with time schedules and working hours.Interests

More details about your skills
Languages! I speak Dutch, English and Portuguese. At home we always speak dutch (both my parents are dutch). I used to go to a Portuguese school (from primary to high school) so I learned how to speak, read and write this language as a child. I improved my Dutch when I moved to The Netherlands to study law. English has always been my third language but I feel as confident talking in English as in the other two languages.
Work with vulnerable people! Apart from my volunteering experience in Greece I worked for the immigration service in the Netherlands during three years, department asylum seekers.
International! I grew up in an international invironment and when I moved to The Netherlands I kept on meeting with people from all over the world. I have been a mentor/buddy for four years and as a mentor/buddy you guide groups of international students during their stay (usually six months up to one year).
Organising! I used to organise (and host) events such as dinners, drinks, parties, citytrips and other events. While I was studying I joined the event committee of a student organisation (IESN: International Exchange Student Network) and helped out organising all sort of events. This is the same student organisation for whom I became a mentor/buddy.
Positive energy! I like being optimistic and believe things happen (or don´t happen) for a reason. I believe people should fight for whatever makes them happy and I´m not a person who gives up easialy. Whenever I have a goal I´ll try everything to archive it.Age
