Hi, I'm Mara!
I love discovering new places, especially those with fascinating nature and landscapes. Being in nature really energizes me, and I enjoy staying active through hiking and outdoor adventures.
Creativity is another big part of my life—whether it's doing hands-on work, making art, or playing music, I love to engage with projects that allow me to use my hands and imagination.
I've been traveling for the past nine months, starting in Central America, and I've now made my way to Colombia. I'm excited to keep learning, meeting new people, and contributing along the way!

I spent six years as a scout, where I learned a lot about traveling light, managing resources, and living in a community. These experiences taught me resilience and adaptability, which have been invaluable during my travels.
I speak Spanish well, I am fluent in English and German, and also know Afrikaans from a year I spent in South Africa six years ago. I’m solution-oriented, whether it’s sewing my broken watch band or creating new clothes from pieces I no longer use. Creativity is important to me, and at home, I love filling my space with bright colors, plants, and self-painted pictures.
I enjoy staying active and working on a variety of outdoor or practical projects, whether they require physical effort or creative thinking. I’m considerate and enjoy working as part of a team, but I also appreciate having time to work independently and focus on my own tasks.
Over the past few years, I’ve developed a passion for photography and videography. My camera has become my constant companion, allowing me to capture the beauty of the places I visit, the moments I experience, and the people I meet. I‘ve added some of my work to my gallery :)
At the moment, I’m working on a farm where I’m learning about permaculture and sustainable agriculture, which has been an exciting and educational experience. This is my first Workaway profile, and I’m really eager to keep learning, expand my horizons, and fully immerse myself in the new places I stay. I’m a quick learner and always ready to dive in!
