Hello,
My name is Madeline and I'm a keen worker who is down to earth; I spend lots of time in community gardens and cooking or working on small art projects.
I recently graduated from Edinburgh University where I studied Sculpture. My particular focus was on making automatas, specifically by working with clay and wood. I liked creating miniature scenes from daily routines. In September I got in contact with the artist Tom Haney who lives near Ashville and he offered to teach me more about making automatas. Hence, I made some plans to stay with him over this coming summer, however, in between visiting Tom Haney and returning to the UK, I would love to do some volunteering around North Carolina!
Since graduation I've been volunteering in community gardens and learning lots about the care for plants and growing produce. I recently planted some trees and beans which I’m excited to see grow! I have also previously worked on Riverford organic farm in Devon which I really enjoyed. I am therefore happy to help out with any gardening, cooking and or working with children.
Currently I'm learning the skills of a painter and decorator at college which includes painting interior walls, wallpapering and painting furniture. If you’re in need of any decorating I'm very happy to help out.
Furthermore, over the summer I was fortunate enough to spend a month in Slovakia learning their traditional crafts. I learnt how to make my own plaster, cook traditional Slovakian food and wove fences. In my own time I love to knit and cook, particularly if it means making jams and chutneys from local produce. I also enjoy selling it to the community.
